1960.... Before the energy crisis. It's very possible that your builder didn't put insulation around the windows. You can pull off the interior trim on one window and see what the opening looks like. If there is air space you're better off with full replacement. You're probably better off with full ...

The Marvin rep didn't say that you can have two different ratings for the same window. That was my idea, just throwing it out there as a possibility. A hare-brained possibility, but a possibility nonetheless. It does make sense that roll-form wouldn't get the same rating because it is bended after t...

Guy,

According to my rep at Marvin, roll-form cannot get the 2605 rating. Either they have the 2605 rating on the frame and a lower rating on the sash or my source in the architectural department is wrong. I couldn't find the information on the AAMA website.

Integrity windows come in only prefinished white and Pebble Gray but can be painted to match your colors. I believe you can request a free brochure at www.integritywindows.com. The doors come only in standard sizes which may or may not be a problem. They have a wood interior and don't offer staining...

ROW has been keeping a lot of replacement window companies in business. They make one of the worst if not the absolute worst window on the market. One should never buy a home with these windows and should run screaming if your builder insists on putting them in a home you're buying. I'm guessing you...

1. Both Pella and Marvin buy glass from Cardinal (www.cardinalcorp.com). Click on "Products" and see the IG with XL Edge spacer. Marvin buys the sealed unit from Cardinal while I'm pretty sure Pella puts the IG units together in-house. I don't know what spacer system Pella uses but I know ...

I sell Marvin and recommend that product but still you can't go wrong with Loewen either. Both are superior products. Loewen's windows are douglas fir which is a much harder wood than Marvin's pine. It also stains darker so keep that in mind if you're using a clear coat. Loewen has a vinyl jamb line...

Yes, the Integrity windows are very good. They are made in standard sizes only and cater to the cost-conscious new construction market. I've heard that fiberglass insulation has been banned in certain places but haven't heard anything about banned windows. Fiberglass can be harmful when inhaled but ...

I think you should look at a corner sample of both windows. The veneer on the RBA is paper thin. I have only seen it stained at home shows and it looks fine there.

I'm in Chicago and RBA usually comes in priced higher than Marvin. Perhaps you should get another Marvin quote.

Window Shopper, I was too much of a smart-alec in my response but I was also a little offended by his attitude. This is a free site with people posting as more or less as a hobby. To be offended when someone doesn't answer your question seems a bit ingenuous. There is a boatload of free information ...

Good advice Guy.

One inch probably won't matter. My guess is that the openings are the same but you won't know for sure until you open them up.
