Re: Tax credit eligibility based on energystar.gov list or just by the requirements? (OKNA)
The tax credit availability is based on meeting the requirements as opposed to being on a list. We provide our customers documentation of the product ratings as well as the other info needed to file and document that, I suspect that most dealers do. The Okna 500dx with Xr9 glass does meet the Energy...

Re: Okna vs Others - Windows and Sliders Northern Connecticut
We are looking to replace the windows and sliding patio doors on our colonial. We have 32 windows and 2 six foot sliders. Having read the forum and reviews, it seems that Okna is a top notch brand and Window World is not so much but a decent window I don't think most pros would characterize that as...

Re: Advice on Windows in Denver
The NFRC ratings cover the thermal part of the equation, and then there are the structural ratings like Air Infiltration, Design Pressure, etc. The former is going to be largely dependent on the glass offered (low-e profile, spacer system, etc), where the latter really speaks more to the engineering...

Re: Advice on Windows in Denver
The best thing that you can do to compare is get another quote or two from reputable install companies. My thoughts on this one: - Price: pretty much normal range. If you factor in the premium for the circle top, you are probably between $1000-$1200 per window which is solid pricing these days. For ...

Re: Anlin vs Provia
Anlin: Not available in my area, however I've seen/heard relatively positive feedback from folks on the west coast. I don't believe that they stack up well against the products that are born and bred from more severe climates, however in a moderate area they are well regarded. Okna: Great performer...

Re: Pella Impervia vs Alside Mezzo
Around here Pella does use subcontractors even though they Pella logo’s on their trucks and trailers. The in house vs sub argument is often brought up as a selling Point going either way depending on what they use. Comparing fiberglass windows to vinyl is very comparable and quite often done . More...

Re: Pella Impervia vs Alside Mezzo
+1, broaden your search. Option 1 and two are red flags on both product and install quality IMO, with option 3 probably having solid installers but not a top performing product by any metric. I should also mention that the "sub" part of option 2 is not a concern in and of itself, but the f...

Re: Deformed interior gasket - Vytex
Not sure how old they are and what the warranty is/was, but the glass is likely covered and the labor to install it not... I believe that was alluded to, just mentioning for clarification. If that's the case, most likely yes, it would be worth it/cost effective unless the windows are experiencing ot...

Re: Windows in Central NJ
I got a quote from a local installer that deals with Okna. $12,000 for the Okna 500, deluxe package. I'm thinking this is the way to go due to the price and the quality of the window. Any reason to go with the vytex? Nope. Sounds like an easy winner assuming it's a reputable company... The only rea...

Re: Recent window install
All looks and sounds pretty normal outside of the fact that they didn't seem to insulate or seal around the perimeter. Conventionally that gap would be foamed, caulked (if too small for foam), or have some loose fiberglass stuffed in there. Is it possible that they caulked it prior to capping? The i...

Re: Pricing Question On Okna 600
+1. Pricing is in the reasonable range and thats a great window. As far as the octagon, as WoW mentioned, shapes are generally going to be pretty pricey. The size of the window doesn't have as big an impact in general as you may expect either, all of the manufacturing processes are the same regardle...

Re: Best Quality for Fair Price
Great advice from WoW, I'd check into the products that he mentioned.
As he alluded to, the price you received is not bad at all for 2024, however the product and company don't seem to fit what you are looking for. Definitely wise to check some other options.

Re: Provia Endure vs Okna (400/600) Long Island, NY
Are these prices for product only? If installed, they sound like they are from 2010 and below cost for a reputable company these days. As far as product, you are probably on the right track. He likely doesn't have access to anything but the 400 series from Okna, and gets a better deal on Provia perh...

Re: What questions to ask?
Just for the sake of others reading this, I'd add ( @WoW correct me if you disagree ), that those ratings are based on the OP's location in AL. For instance, up here in cold WI we'd be looking for a much better minimum u value. Really looking for .20 or lower (triple pane glass, eligible for Energy ...

Re: Replacement windows with slim frames?
Where you are located will determine what material would be suitable, and also what products may be available.
Are the 8x8 windows one piece of glass, or are these 8x8 openings with a "bank of frames" within them. If the former, that can be a limiting factor as well.
