Re: Alside Excalibur Climatech Vinyl Windows Questions HELP!!
Does Alside make a window thats better than the Excalibur? I think my buddy only supplies the Alside brand so I might be ~ out of luck with my overall options. The Sheffield is better than the Excalibur but still not highly regarded... There are many different avenues to purchase windows, I have to...

Re: Alside Excalibur Climatech Vinyl Windows Questions HELP!!
Sorry, I don't think that anyone's trying to be an a-hole. My opinions are based on first hand experience, but they are just that-- opinions. Do with them what you choose. If you are asking for a recommendation, I'd suggest you expand your budget just a little bit. There are a lot of variables that ...

Re: Alside Excalibur Climatech Vinyl Windows Questions HELP!!
I used to think the same way that they were not that bad, until I had a fair amount of them installed for a bit of time. I've seen a substantial number of service calls on them within 2-3 years. I'm absolutely dreading what they will look like in 5-10.

Re: What About Just Adding a Third Pane to my Old Windows?
lol,, so I guess your alumnum isn't so bad.... Unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that just adding a piece of glass wont do much and will be more unsightly than new windows. The only way that you probably see improvement is if you u can find someone to make you a piece with a hard coat of lo...

So you plan on selling in 5-7 years. Would you like the windows in your home to be an asset or detriment at that time? If you'd prefer the former, than find a better window for your money.

... It would also make your windows completely hideous, and still not very efficient. I'm not sure where you're located, but aluminum windows should have NEVER been used in anything other than coastal or arid locations. Anywhere else they are completely obsolete, and for good reason.

Re: Soft-lite imperial pro opinions
+1 on talking to JScott.... As for the Imperial pro, it is a nice window, I wouldn't say that it is better than the prism platinum though. The importance of the difference in AI is highly debatable. Give it some consideration, but it should not be the determining factor by a long shot imho.

Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)
Glass packages being equal, they should be within a point or two. The Ultra from Softlite is Intercept spacer triple pane with Argon. I don't think you'll actually see a .19, that might be on a picture window. On a Dh it should be .22-.23.... Their Ultimate is triple with super spacer and krypton. T...

Re: Replacing Windows From Outside
The blinds stops are pretty much impossible to remove without breaking. The only way to do so would be cutting them with a multi-tool or very carefully with a sawz-all. Typically, outside installs are followed by aluminum capping, or total replacement of the exterior trim with a pvc product or somet...

Re: looking for vinyl windows with "built-in" color
Thats weird, I sell some Softlite, not a ton, but they don't have a brown vinyl as an option in their lit. Only as a foil laminate or paint... Do they only offer that in certain lines?

Re: Window World vs. Champion...my head is spinning
I'd also recommend checking out some locally owned window installation companies. You'll likely find better products, installation, and service. I'm not sure what's available in your neck of the woods, but Gorell and Softlite are a couple great products. WW's Alside is not, and Champion's product is...

Re: looking for vinyl windows with "built-in" color
I don't know anyone that has an actual brown extrusion,(although I'm sure somebody does). Some companies (PlyGem and I believe Sunrise) offer a capstock or laminate which is nice, otherwise Gorell offers a pretty nice warranty on their painted exteriors (20yrs instead of 10 like others).
