Re: PGT windows
If you want tinted glass, gray, bronze, green, blue, etc., then you ordering a specialized product. "Normal" glass is clear, not colored. Impact glass does not noticeably affect the visibility thru your glass versus non-impact glass. Window glass is normally clear. Window glass also has ir...

Re: Defining "comfort" with regards to replacement windows
Is their a relationship between "coats" and "layers"? For example, when OKNA advertises their 500 series glass as having 11 layers of Low E, is that a different concept than how many coats of Low E that window glass has? There are two common types of LowE coatings on the market ...

I have read that one of the few gasses that can affect noise thru the IG airspace is sulfur hexafluoride.
Now if anyone actually knows where to get sulfur hexafluoride.....

Re: Why is there no acrylic regular window?
Thank you for your answers! I also looked very hard for answers elsewhere, and here are the conclusions: 1 - Low-e acrylic windows can't be found. I assume that Washington and Randy are right and it can't be applied. Just as a side note though, the energy efficiency and natural UV blocking of acryl...

Re: Why is there no acrylic regular window?
After some research, it appears clearly that acrylic is better (cheaper, lighter, stronger, clearer, better insulation, better UV filtering) than glass. Only inconvenient: it expands and shrinks some with temperature variation. However, there are ways to deal with that as: - there are boat ports (w...

Re: Calculating STC
My issue is finding windows that can deaden sound. I have read numerous posts here and I feel confident on the technical aspects to reduce the sound, but what I'm trying to figure out if there is a formula that I can use to get to an approximate STC rating without relying on the vendor telling me t...

Re: installing a frameless exterior window in an old block house
Hi! After looking at several options in other posts in this forum, I decided to go with a frameless window. This will be laminated double-pane or triple pane glass, either ordered by itself or removed from its frame. I'd like to install this glass FLUSH with the OUTER part of my block wall (from th...

Re: Heat Mirror film technology
Heat mirror technology came out of research at MIT in the late 70's. In 1979 a few of the original researchers headed west to Palo Alto, California, and founded Southwall Technologies to manufacture and sell the heat mirror product. As Window4U pointed out Southwall commercialized the technology in ...
