Re: OKNA 800 and Polaris Ultraweld

Glad to hear you service Mt. Airy Eric. NorthernMaryland, you have a great installer and a great company that services your area right there with Eric (WOW). I can't recommend him any stronger. After speaking with him I have a strong feeling that you'll decide on him as your installer. I think he ha...

This struck me funny for some reason. I gave up fiberglass and started insulating with Hilti brand foam in 1997, ...18 years ago.

Re: Importance of Foam Insulation

While using foam is superior methodology, some old-time installers are set in their ways and are very stubborn; for some reason they like to stay with what they know even if it costs them business. I would think that if a customer insisted that window foam be used on their job that any installer wou...

Re: replacement window question about OKNA/hi mark windows

That email offering them for that is probably a sales tactic to get in the door. The real price is probably recalculated once installation, Low-E glass and other options are added in. You may end up with a more realistic price once they add in installation, etc.

Re: Problem with Starmark 900 Series

Guy came and looked at the windows. Thinks they were installed fine - took a string and laid it from top of the side of the frame to the bottom and there was no bowing -so figured the shimming was done right. He put it down to to the manufacturer - which is really disappointing as I thought the Okn...

Re: Problem with Starmark 900 Series

It looks to me as if nothing is wrong with the window and that it is caused because the window was not shimmed properly at the middle of the window.

Re: Problem with Gorell slider door

I would check to see if the interlocks have bypassed. There seems to be a consistent gap the entire length of the meeting stile. That would be my best guess as well. It doesn't seem like the panel's interlocks are interlocking, which would normally help pull the panels together. When they bypass ea...

Re: Problem with Starmark 900 Series

The windows may not have been shimmed properly. That would be the first place I'd look anyway. The space between the sash and frame should be equal all the way up and down. If the gap is larger near the middle then the window may need an adjustment to the shimming. Have you had your dealer come out ...

South Florida Window Research

I'm heading to Naples Florida in the morning for a couple weeks to do some important and much needed research to find out the scientific reasons why windows in extreme southern Florida don't ever ice up in January. When I get back I'll definitely share this important research with you all. I have a ...

Re: Marvin Infinity Windows Good for Detroit Climate?

Double hungs many times feel like they are leaking air when they are not because of convection on really cold days. And... it's very hard to tell the difference between leakage and convection, even for window pros who try to look at it to try to figure it out. One thing for sure, if it's not windy o...

Re: Warped windows?

I've found that almost all old wood windows I've replaced have a crown in the middle of the old sill. That's why I always made it part of my procedure to put a 1/4" thick shim under the new insert window at each side to raise up the ends a little. That way the bow in the middle wouldn't transfe...

Re: Gorell

Actually it's not a small cost masterext. I am a former Gorell dealer, and I for one am shocked and disappointed at the way that Softlite is essentially telling these homeowners to get lost. I contacted them for a replacement IG unit recently for a past client of mine, and was quoted nearly $400. :...
