Re: Looking for advice on new construction (Wisconsin)

Lee, Typically (at least around here), the company who is contracted for the rough carpentry will handle the window installs as well. That is why new construction almost always has subpar windows, because you have builders who know nothing about windows buying them, framers who know little about win...

Re: vinyl replacement windows jeldwen vs. PlyGem (Certain Teed)

Neither one is a great choice, although you could find worse... I like the Plygem lines that were formerly Great lakes, but the certainteed is not impressive from what I've seen. The line that I'm familiar with is the old Bryn mawr II.

+1, the Gorell line is nice, but WOW has some equally excellent options and you won't find a better guy to deal with. :)

Re: Replacement Windows - custom look

Well, my intent was not to come off as whacky, but to point out some differences. I am not a salesperson by the way - a service person. I can tell you that if you are looking for quality then the glass process may be a point of interest to you. It's the difference between a 2% or less failure rate ...

Re: Fair Price for Okna Starmark Replacement Window Installed?

Sounds like a good price to me. I don't sell that product so I can't say for sure, but it is a very high-end window with some options, so I don't know that you'll find a better deal than that.

Re: Replacement Windows - custom look

Check with your local Marvin Dealer. The Integrity line has expanded a great deal this year, and they are accomidating special sizes. It's a great line of window, and if the Wood Ultrex is a bit out of your price range, the All Ultrex may be an option that you want to look at. One of the perks of F...

Re: Tax Credit and the "Energy Performance Ratings"

Sounds like some inconsistencies within Anderson. For your purposes, the certification statement and bill of sale is all you need to save for your records and is what I'd recommend. It is actually possible that they put the wrong sticker on. I actually had an order of 20+ Weathershield windows at on...

Re: u-factor for vinyl windows

In terms of any tangible difference, no there really isn't much difference going from .29 to .30... One thing to look at though is the SHGC. These numbers could be very different on two glass packages and your climate determines what will perform better for you. For instance, here in WI, a window wi...

Re: Great Lakes Seabrooke vs Simonton Bronze (Prism)

The Great Lakes Seabrooke is comparable to the Simonton imo.... So product wise, I don't think that a $2000 premium is justified. That being said, I would definitely investigate the installation companies further because that $2000 may very well be worth it if you get a high quality install compared...

Re: PlyGem Replacement Kitchen Window

Is there a reason why you need a SH? The PlyGem Premium is a nice product and I'd recommend it over the others, although the Milgard is decent as well. I think you may have the lower PlyGem lines mixed up, as there is a Pro series and a Contractor 2000 series. Again, I'd strongly recommend the Premi...
