Re: can SDL cost as much as $50 extra per window?
My quote on the cost of SDL's was very conservative. Sunrise charges us per lite (or square). A 4-lite configuration on a small window would be a lot less than a 12 over 12 on a large double-hung.

Re: can SDL cost as much as $50 extra per window?
It's been a while since we have had an order for them, but I do know that with vinyl they aren't an inexpensive option. The only ones that I've ever done was with Sunrise. They are at least a $100 option per window. The SDL's from Sunrise are very nice compared to the ones that I've seen from United.

Re: Eastern PA - need 20 replacement windows at good price
I agree with Anthony. That's a tight budget to be working with while expecting a high quality window with expert installation. $400 to $500 a window would be more realistic in my opinion. Even at that price you might not be looking at one of those manufacturer's better series of windows. There are p...

Re: Alside Signature 8000 Series from Apex Enegry Solutions
I'm not very fond of the "Model Home" special pricing sales tactics. It's a load of crap. If that's their "special" pricing, I'd hate to see their regular pricing for that product. But, in all fairness we haven't seen your project to know the details of the installation. Do you h...

What about Ultra U-Plus (low-e & argon)? Price sounds way too low.

You could consider an awning window also.

Re: REPLACEMENT WINDOW AND SCREENING COMPARISONS
I use to carry Trimline, but with all of the great woodgrain options on the better vinyl products out there, none of my customers seemed to want to bite on them. Trimeline was one of the first wood/clad products to have the option of custom sizing and retro jamb sizing that I know of. My experience ...

Re: Lowe's Pella Thermastar
An installer friend of mine installs for several local Lowes stores in NJ. He doesn't care much for the Thermastars. When he stumbles upon side work he will go and get almost anything else. Seems like all of the samples that I've seen in the local Lowes have really bad welds. If I worked for Lowes I...

Re: In the ballpark, or keep shopping?
Seems like a fair price to me. LS has been my favorite window for about two years now given it's bang for the buck. I do like to add Super Spacer to the LS over the Intercept (standard) for the small upcharge.

Re: Marvin Infinity (fiberglass) vs BF Rich (vinyl)
I live really close to the BF Rich plant, thus I see their products in several of the local supply houses that I visit quite often. Their double-hungs are very bulky, even for vinyl. I think that all of their series are very "dated" with the profile of their frames and sashes. I don't like...

Re: Looking for advice on replacement windows
Paradigm has a pretty good product from what I've seen. I know a few contrators in my area that when they are not installing Marvin or Andersen full tear out types of windows, pretty much use Paradigm all of the time.

Re: Great Lakes Windows vs. other brands
The newer Great Lakes products are pretty good. We stopped and switched over to Schuco, Sunrise, and Soft-Lite kind of at the same time as Great Lakes re-vamped their line up. We had a lot of seal failures from 2000 to 2005, but they always made good with new glass.

Re: Vanguard Windows
I've been dealing with the Vanguard line from Sunrise for some time now. Very good window and Sunrise has given me very attractive pricing on their casements and awnings compared to some of the other brands that we carry. Never had any problems with them. We put 20 of them in my Grandparents house 3...

tah's response is right on the mark. If I remember correctly, they are still pushing a lot heat mirror triple-glazed products.

Re: Simonton, Sunrise, Sheffield
I guess that their managers make all of their reps on a daily basis go through 4 hours of Rodney Webb sales training? Maybe their presentations are 4-6 hours long and they can't get you signed up for your new windows in just 3 hours? Gorell and Soft-Lite are both excellent products.
