Re: Marvin fiberglass vs. vinyl triple pane
30-years, yes you certainly have earned them. I just saw some of the new Plygem/Great Lakes stuff and it looked pretty good. From what I remember they were always a little bit on the expensive side.

Re: Marvin fiberglass vs. vinyl triple pane
Well there Buddy, you just go ahead a rock on with your bad self with those Integrity's. It's nice to hear that the shoemaker's kids are wearing Prada. Does Prada even make shoes? If they do or did, I'm sure that they would be nice. I know of a lot of installers in the industry that don't have the n...

Re: Quotes for Replacement Windows
I like the Sunrise window better than the Reflections as I think it's a more attractive looking window. I'm not a real big fan of single hung windows as at some point the homeowner is going to have fight with a ladder to clean the glass on the outside of those upper sashes. $3,800 is a lot of money ...

Re: Marvin fiberglass vs. vinyl triple pane
"Fibercore" is just a fancy name for a fiberglass reinforcement bar insert that is slide into the horizontal meeting rail sash extrusions on their vinyl windows. I'm most likely the most pro Sunrise advocate on these forums. The Sunrise sashes on really wide double-hungs are tall sliders a...

Re: Info Needed - Archer Exteriors
Give them a call and ask who is the manufacturer. They are real close to me, however none of my customers have ever had them out for an estimate for me to see what products they are carring. Their business was really the new construction market until that came crashing down. Give us some of the deta...

Re: Sunrise Design Changed?
Sunrise did address this issue. During the time frame that you mentioned, I had just a few of the liftrails come loose and just basically re-glazed them with Novaflex (commercial silicone) and never had a problem with those particular double-hungs with them coming loose again. When I was out to Sunr...

Re: Soft-lite Barrington Vs. Crystal 500
As you most likely know already, the Barrington is a "price window" and is Soft-Lite's lowest grade series. It will do the job for small to medium size openings. For larger openings I like a stronger head of the master frame and much stronger sashes as opposed to the narrow line Barrington...

Re: Please give me your opinions on these quotes
The pricing on LS by the contractor is very low. He might be one of those guys that has just has his truck, insurance, and some business cards and gets a lot of work based upon reputation. The larger retailer's pricing is not out of line, it's a fair price for a normal installation. Super Spacer is ...

Re: Thoughts on Quote
Soft-Lite Imperial LS and Elements both should have about the tightest manufacturing tolerances in the industry. I do think that they have the best sill out there.

Re: Window shopping--looking for feedback
Can we assume that the Imperial LS and the Bainbridge/Barrington window estimates aren't coming from the same dealer? As a dealer for all three of these series I can tell you that the price difference might be close to $50 for the jump up for a dealer, but no where near $100. The LS is a very solid ...

We better not have to see your home on "Holmes on Homes" or whatever that show is called. That guy is great. Hope everything works out well for you.

Re: Replacing windows and needs help!
Well, yes and no. You can find a budget window such as a Soft-Lite Bainbridge, Imperial Classic, Vista Panorama, or some other decent stuff out of the some local reputable supply houses. But, the installation in your case will be most of the battle. Metal window tear outs are usually more time consu...

Re: Can Anyone Verify?
The sliders with the internal blinds will not qualify for the tax credit as they do not have any type of gas filling or modern low-e coating. I don't even think that most of the manufacturers are even sending them out for testing as they know it's a waste of their money. The performance numbers for ...

Re: And the winner is.....
It's the exact same foil as Soft-Lite has. Woodgrain/textured and all. It looks really nice. What would be really cool would be to have these exterior laminates available with woodgrain interior laminates.
