Re: H window vs Gorell vs Weathershield

If all the products were the same, high rise buildings would have plastic framed windows. As well, entry doors to commercial buildings would be made of plastic instead of metal. Thats a pretty silly statement. By that logic it's amazing that most homes don't collapse upon themselves within five yea...

Re: H window vs Gorell vs Weathershield

There is no upcharge for most residential window "custom sizes" either... So what is the AAMA certified DP and AI rating for the H window? What are the U-value and SHGC ratings for your DP and TP glass packages?

Thanks Ted for your completely unbiased and informative post    .... So other than your sales propaganda about "commercial windows being superior to residential windows", please tell us the real numbers difference.

Re: 6 month old Soft-Lites, MAJOR leaks, looking for advice

If you re-read my post, I said I would give them "one more chance" to correct the situation and THEN I would begin escalating the emphasis on my level of dis-satisfaction by contacting the State Board of Licensing. I don't know how many more chances you think this company deserves but thi...

Re: 6 month old Soft-Lites, MAJOR leaks, looking for advice

You may be right Eco--I wasn't totally disagreeing with you--, I just think that if the company is still being cooperative, the OP might be better off trying to keep things on good terms.... When complaints start getting filed etc, people tend to "dig-in" and say screw you. Perhaps I'm giv...

Re: 6 month old Soft-Lites, MAJOR leaks, looking for advice

Well, I don't know that I'd go as far as Eco, as it really depends on what the scope of work in your contract is. (regarding using foam, etc..) That being said, they are responsible for installing your windows properly, and obviously air/frost leaking in etc. is not acceptable. I think your current ...

Re: Okna repalcement window

Okna is one of the nicest products available, bar none. That being said, I agree with buddy that installation is of paramount importance... and can make a superior product worthless if not properly installed.

Re: Replacement Windows

I sell the Timeless, so I am somewhat biased, but I chose it because it is really a nice product. Thin frame, great IG packages, well engineered, and all of the quality and options of the 5300 but with better looks and minimal efficiency sacrificed.... Ask for the latch-lock plus. It's a pretty cool...

Re: Inspecting windows after installation

Fenex, would you agree that the lower edge of the glass is more often than not the first place for condensation on any window? ... I think that we can all agree on that. The question is why? I thought that the shelving effect made good sense and comes from multiple reputable sources, however, I have...

Re: Vinyl Replacement Install?

Where I am at here in Illinois the drywall cutback is many times not a good thing as you can't get in to insulate when the inside is butted to the drywall and the outside is butted right up to the existing siding. By going into the drywall opening and installing a painted interior stop, we are able...

Re: Vinyl Replacement Install?

+3... It can be installed inside the drywall without problems, but as the others mentioned, it would be preferrable to just cut it back for the reasons given.

Re: question about mil thickness, glass loss and performance

RBK, it kind of sounds to me like you might be confusing the mil thickness of the vinyl with the thickness of the actual frame and sash extrusion. The mil thickness of the vinyl is actually is like the "gauge"of metal, and really doesn't have anybearing on how much glass space you'll have....

Re: Fiberglass vs Vinyl Replacement Windows

In fg, I like the Marvin better as well. That being said, my beef with the Impervia is looks coupled with Pella's terrible customer service. Product-wise, you could certainly do worse, altough it would not be my choice.
