Need Help from Experts!!

#1 Post by Biscayne »

Good Morning
This is my first Post,
Hello to all and i have been reading this for a while and decided to join and there is alot of great knowledge of window experience people in this community.

I am trying to find a good quality window for my house
I live in South Carolina and have a very old ( 1900s built) home wrap around porch etc.
Few of the Windows actually slide within the walls of the home/ I was told by a couple contractors.
They have never seen anything like that before and they been doing window for 40 years.
I plan on staying in the house and not flipping the house. I am wanting to find a good high quality window.
Home will require 21 Windows ( Yikes i know, quite a high number)

I got a quote on Alside Mezzo windows for $8800 with Grids

As i researched this, this seems to be a middle of road window ( C average) and understand its not very long lasting and seen some not very favorable reviews of warranty issues with the company.

What is very good quality window ( B+ range or there abouts) that i could get

I appreciate any and welcome any feedback and thanks for the taking the time to read and reply.

Any more input you need from me feel free to let me know and I am happy to get back

Thanks Again for letting me be a part of this community !!

Biscayne, the rating that you've gathered for that window is probably a bit generous. That said, being in Southern California you won't have access to most of top performers simply because they aren't produced or shipped out to a moderate climate like yours. Simonton and Milgard are a couple respectable options that should be available out there. You could also consider something like Marvin's fiberglass options...

Thanks HomeSealed for your input,

I will research those and see what they offer and check out the reviews

I have heard all 3 of those, outside of Marvin's I wasnt sure if they were good company to consider or not

I will check into that and I appreciate your insight.

I did get in touch with Zen Windows in the North Carolina area but I was located out of their radius for work.

Would it be worth hitting the Angies List or Home Adviser Site ?

Thanks !!

HomeSealed read your comment as Southern California and not South Carolina.

Milgard will not be available in your region as they are a West of the Rockies only company.

South Carolina starts to get into that region of the country where folks are less concerned about window performance (as contrast with the Northeast where performance is a bit more felt via the cold). That all being said, I don't see any reason why one of the good windows (Soft-Lite, Okna, Sunrise) might be in your region.

Many Thanks WOW

I was quite curious how that state came up in the Post

That clears it up

I recently found a very established Building supply company (not the Big Box stores)

They have Lincoln, Sierra Pacific and YKK AP Windows

Would any of those be a wise choice ?

Thanks for correcting that, a little "california dreaming" on my part perhaps as I watch snow accumulate outside here in WI... Beyond that, keep searching.

Good Grief..... I am buying them not her
I found they are 2 distributors so if one is not in ball park of price I will definitely check on the other one

Not sure when i get the quotes but soon as i do I will post and see what your thoughts are

Im still looking into Okna and Sunrise distributor.

Without our brave veterans, none of us would be here. This is the best country in the world by Far. I find it rather amusing how some folks always complain about how bad our country is but yet none of them move to canada or sweeden. Deep down, they know how great America is, they just need their 15 minutes of fame for whatever reason.
