Old Window

#1 Post by inna »

Hi everyone,
The house we bought has old single-pane windows that we want to replace to better insulate the house, keep dust and noise away. There is one large picture (not functional) window in the front room that we don’t usually use. We are debating on whether it’s worth replacing it. It seems like this windows might be slightly thicker than the other windows in the house but we don’t know for sure. Are there any diagnostic tools we can use to analyze/inspect this window on how energy efficient it is, how well it protects the house from the dust getting in etc?

I would appreciate your advice and ALL suggestions!

From a consumer standpoint, I would just have the any dealers quote you with and without replacing the window and see what they say also. If you do your research on dealers locally (Google reviews, Angie's List, BBB, etc.), you'll quickly see which dealers are standup and which ones are blowing smoke. The standup ones should shoot you straight on whether it should be replaced or not. If the quote is just a little bit more than total quote, may make sense to replace them all for peace of mind if nothing else. Good luck.
