Are all my bids high?

#1 Post by Trw623 »

Hello,

I have seen a lot of prices posted on this forum that seem lower than my window bids. I have received two bids on Simonton daylight max and one on Amerimax Craftsman portrait. For 18 windows, the two Simonton bids are $13.500 and $14,600. The Amerimax bid was $17,000. That puts the lowest Simonton bid at $750 per window and the Amerimax at $945 per window. I live on the Phoenix area and want to make sure I'm not overpaying. I was expecting to be able to get a quality window for less than these quotes but not sure if I'm being unrealistic and need a reality check. I'm also wondering how window size factors in. How do I tell if these price per window numbers seem high because I have relatively large windows? Any feedback that can be provided is much appreciated.

The best way to compare is to do what you have already started, get additional bids. On the surface, your prices don't seem high. That said, there are many variables in product and options, installation needs, regional considerations, etc. These could all change the price of one window by several hundred dollars while maintaining the same value. I'd suggest finding reputable, local window specialist companies (check out things like google reviews, angies list, etc and look for a good grade AND volume of reviews), and compare accordingly.

Probable high. But we do not know the full product spec, installation details, or site aggravation.

I too hope you can find better product, though you do not have the same needs as our north centarl region.

Thanks for the feedback. Any specific recommendations on better windows than the amerimax or daylight max that are popular in the southwest? I'm planning on pursuing bids for Anlin and Milgard vinyls at this point. If there are better options I will look into those as well.

I think you will be more concerned with AC savings than heating. The glass package is going to be a big difference from my region. Some sort of tinted or better solar heat gain for your area. It still makes sense to me to get a low AL, air leakage, buying a high performance no draft window as an installed product is usually the same cost as a drafty window. You just have to shop better.
Figure out the glass package that is good for you. Then look for a window that is < .05 AL
