Estimates have come in

#1 Post by joestein514 »

We got our first estimate last night. The Starmark EVO dealer.

To replace 28 double hung windows (Many of which are oversized at 36.5 X 71.5) and 4 basement hoppers - $29,203. All windows, except for the ones in the brick front of our home will be new construction installation.

To replace the screen door with an OKNA Elegante - $3,016.

We are still waiting for the soft lite dealer's estimate.

A couple of years ago we installed a Pella series 750 patio door from Lowes in our kitchen in our old house. It had glass that could open and you could access the blinds. We loved that door. It looked great and slid great and had good heft.

What do you think of the quality of the Elegante vs the Pella (Is it called lifesytles now?)

You certainly didn't set a very high bar with Pella. Yes, the Elegante is a better door with or without blinds.

I like them both very much.
The Pella is double the cost, more between the glass shade or blind options, triple pane, etc.
The Elegante is excellent.
Either will do a great job. They are very different.

So, Deluxe Windows and Doors who has several lines stopped by.

He gave my prices for a Pella Lifestyle Door and Pella 250 Vinyl windows and Marvin Essential composite windows.

The Pella windows were $650/double hung and $450/basement for a total of $25,000 including the patio door.

The Marvin Essentials were $1200/windows and $950/basement for a total of $42,900 including the patio door.

This compares poorly pricewise against the $32,219 for the Starmark EVO and OKNA Elegante patio door.

At this point I am just waiting for the Soft-lite people's quote.

Right now, the EVO is the leader in the clubhouse in my book.

Never heard back from soft-lite dealer. He did call a few time and ask me some questions. Gave me the impression that he wasn't on his game. Keep promising an estimate and never delivered.

So, I signed the Starmark EVO contract today for the windows and patio door.

We still want a wrought iron front door. Just gotta figure out what design we want.

The door itself is wrought iron with glass. Here is the description from one of the contractors catalogues:

Hand Forged Iron Doors. Here are some sample pics:

Nice looking doors, what’s the price tag on those?

Well, the soft-lite dealer had told me $6600 installed. However, the Starmark EVO dealer, told us around $8K. I mentioned the price from the soft-lite dealer and he said he will see what he can do once we pick a specific door.

We haven't decided yet.

They look really cool.
The two I have seen in person did not seal well.

Do you mean the doors don't seal where the meet in center?

Or something else?

cool doors, are those on the outside of prime entry doors, acting like a security door?

Those are the actual entry doors. There is glass where the is an opening. I think one of the pictures is before the glass is inserted.
