Jump Frame Sill "blocking" material recommendations
Jump Frame Sill "blocking" material recommendations
Need advice on what type of material to use as “blocking” under a replacement “jump Frame” vinyl window. As described in the “AAMA 2410-13 Standard Practice for Installation of Windows with and Exterior Flush Fin Over an Existing Windows Frame” guide. Does anyone use anything other than wood/lumber material?

The question was "Does anyone use anything other than wood/lumber material?"
uncle eddie, if the answer is Yes, do you mind advising what other material you used was?
Thanks,

Wood is most common. You could also rip down PVC trim to the required dimensions.

DE Mike what do you think?
What type/function is the window in the illustration?
If I was going to solid block the bottom inside leg I would use wood, probably not continous.
Another option is boral. We continue to use cedar shims, you could option for synthetic shims and a combo of wood/pvc or boral.

Looks like a southern climate "do not disturb the stucco" thing to me. Glad I don't have deal with in our area. If forced, I'm sure I could find a way to make the job harder and less profitable for myself.

Once you have done a few and measure and cut what you need once you get there for blocking, its way faster than standard replacement and capping. Even of a wood out.
No comparison once you get to a metal/vinyl out, let alone a stucco application.

I agree with the others that wood would probably be default here, otherwise something like azek, but that is awfully pricey for such a utilitarian purpose.

Yep. If the frame jump is done properly, that interior frame should NEVER see a drop of moisture.
