Tempered or not? Not code required

#1 Post by jesoonster »

Hi everyone. I appreciate everyone's help and I'm in the finalization stages of ordering the window through my contractor (Don Young alum).

I called DY office and they advised me to get tempered windows for a rather large arch window on top of my front door (size is roughly 90in X 72 in). They mentioned that if it were to ever break, that would be a disaster and though it isn't code required b/c it was strongly advisable. Now that it is in my head, I'm thinking I'd pay the 500ish difference to just get it tempered so I won't worry about it anymore. Also, would 3/16" thickness be an overkill? That was also recommended.

What do the experts think? Thank you in advance.

Tempered and 3/16 sounds good to me.

Heck, at that size and application I'd recommend tempered and 1/4" glass
