Best Sunroom windows

#1 Post by BigBob69 »

We were planning to add a screen porch to our place and decided to go to full 4 season sunroom instead. I like the open air concept of a screen room but I also would like to keep furniture out in this room. I would appreciate any suggestions for windows with large screen openings?

Premium vinyl slider, two lite or three lite.

I like Anthony's suggestion. Large sliders will keep the room nice and bright with plenty of airflow.

If you go with sliders you might want to look into full screens. That way in the summer you could remove the sashes to get full ventilation.

We usually use 2-lite sliders with full screens. We also been putting picture windows under the 2-lites to give more light.
Here are a few examples of the OKNA 500 SERIES

This Sunroom we used Great Lakes Euro Sliders.

Instead of Picture Windows below the sliders we used sheetrock.

We left the 4x4 posts and framed up from the concrete 3" and framed down on the header 3". The height of the sliders are 60" and the Picture Windows are 24" . We also ordered a 84" entry door to make it more even with the top of the windows. We usually order a full view entry door but this homeowner needed a doggie door installed. Everything is then capped with PVC Aluminum Coil.
Finishing up another one tomorrow will post some pictures. This one we also used the OKNA 500 Sliders with picture windows mulled on the bottom.

ok.. what was the width of the sliders? you only left the corners ? did you leave the existing mulls/ 2x4 or was everything replaced except the corner posts?
again, you really did a nice job. very clean looking.

The sliders were 43" inches wide. We left all the existing cedar 4x4's on this job because they were in good shape and plumb. We took out the 2x4 going across each opening and mulled the picture window to the 2-lite. We had to re-frame the opening for the door because it was only 36' wide. Most of the Sunrooms we do we have to replace all the framing. The one we are finishing up tomorrow we only left the coner posts. We do many of these here. One thing we noticed is you cant make the 2-lite slider to wide when your mulling it on top of a picture window. The picture window seems to drop in the middle supporting the weight of the 2-lite. Its better to put a 2x4 on top of the 2-lite and cap it .

This one we just finished yesterday. We put in the OKNA double pane 2-lite sliders with picture windows mulled on the bottom.
