Heat Mirror Seal Failure on Willmar Windows/Doors
Heat Mirror Seal Failure on Willmar Windows/Doors
As a general contractor I built a 6,000 SF home in 1993 using Willmar doors and windows with R-Plus Heat Mirror glazing throughout. It was a pretty extensive package including 22 full lite French doors and over 20 pairs of casement units. Six years in, started seeing seal failures in the glazing of a few units. Now (2018) every single French door has a failed panel showing up as either lightly fogged or a film of dust/dirt on the inside of the sealed units. I won't be able to sell this home without replacing all glass, as it will surely come up on any buyer inspection. We're talking about a $2,000,000 home sale here. Should there not be some liability on the part of either the manufacturer or supplier to shoulder the cost of replacing these units? This is a type of defect that goes beyond the standard manufacturers' warranty period. These units should not fail over time and require replacement if manufactured correctly. Anyone with a similar problem out there, or comments about this ?? Has anyone received any compensation through litigation for this issue?

Sadly, anything on the initial heat mirror class action is going to be ate up at this point.

Try Jeld Wen, good luck since most don’t warranty glass after 20 years.
Get prices on replacing with dual pane either by a pro or do it yourself , it can be pretty easy with the exception of damaging the glazing bead.
