Handyman installs

#1 Post by Bobert »

I've been reading a lot about how to install windows and how the install matters. I then ran across a video of what might be the worst install I've ever seen.

This is a long video but is almost comical to me and I am not even a Window Pro:

Can't say I watched the full 29 minutes here.

The couple of snippets that I did see, didn't look promising.

There is always someone who will do it cheaper.. when customers get 3 quotes and company A,B are $9500 and $10000, but then company C comes in at $4000 this is usually what you get. I especially like how he “glued” in his mounting blocks with painters caulk.

It is hard to catch but I noticed the energy label on the window had him installing clear glass with no LoE glass. From his other videos he is in Mississippi a place you would think we need at least LoE-270 or 366. I wonder how blocks that are glued in with caulk is going to work at all. He totally forgot about any kind of water management. He also could have avoided the need for blocks if he used a flex shaft bit to angle back into the stud.
