Certainteed Top Sash

#1 Post by kennybro »

I have a Certainteed Window that has a broken top sash pane. Top sash is stationary. It does not seem to be assembled like any other window. It does not have the plastic snap in glazing. I cannot find a shred of info on how to get that double glazed glass panel out of the frame. I called the company who bought Certainteed windows division, and they were no help. Do I have to cut it out? Thank you for any info! Ken B

Can you post a picture of the interior and exterior?

Thank you Windows on Washington! Here are some interiors and exteriors. You can see in INT4 that it looks, in the corner, like there is a snap in bead, but that flange and the rest of the window frame are one piece it seems. All one molded thing. Ken B

It is internally glazed. Cut the glazing compound or tape from the outside (sharp putty knife), and then pop the internal glazing bead. Get the glass re-made first and then have it ready to change out. You will need to remove the glazing bead to get and exact make size.

Thanks much for your reply. What's confusing me is there does not seem to be a removable glazing bead. It appears the the window frame including the part that holds the double pane panel in place is one single molded piece. There is nothing on this vinyl window to disassemble, that would allow me to get access to the broken insert so that I can measure it, remove it and replace. Thanks!

Roger that. Had to be some bead there, but they can be pretty tight and inconspicuous at times.
