Milgard aluminum single hung lower pane removal

#1 Post by Joe K »

I have 15 year old Milgard aluminum single hung windows. I want to remove the lower pane that slides up and down. There are some metal clips inside the frame. How do I get the window out of the frame?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, if the metal clips are near the top on each side, you pop the clip open by getting a screwdriver or your fingernail between the clip and frame on the very bottom of the clip and pull. Dont take the clip out, just pop it open. If you have rubber stop pieces in the top corners, pull them out. Then you raise your window as high as you can, move it to the left as far as you can, and swing the right side out, then the left side. Voila! It's out. You will notice the balance assemblies will be held in place by those metal clips. When you're ready to put the frame back, do the opposite procedure, close the window, then push the clips back into place and re-install the rubber pieces.

Joe, the metal clips won't be near the top of the window, they will be right above the top of the sliding panel when it's in the closed position. I just wanted to be clear about that so i didn't totally confuse you.
