I am looking to replace my aluminum windows with vinyl inserts. I have helped friends replace old wooden windows. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to remove my current windows.
I have been told that the side tracks on aluminum windows are typically stapled in to the frame and that I should be able to pry the tracks out of the frame. It looks like this may not apply to my windows. It appears as if the three "legs" that form the tracks are a permanent part of the window frame.
There are two metal clips (one on each side) 3/4 of the way up in the inside channel (i.e., above the inner sash). These clips open up about 1/8 of an inch. Not sure what they are for.
Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Removing Alcoa windows
Are you working on the old 4-track aluminum sliders, by any chance? If so, I can offer a few tips learned the hard way last year.
