8 Ft Slider with Blinds

#1 Post by rgzzz »

I am looking to replace 8 ft wide 2 door sliders with blinds inside. My Pella are totally rotted out! (not happy). Does anyone know who sells these that are not a fortune. I am in Northern Chicago suburbs. I was directed to Strong Windows on here a few years ago, but I looked and they are closed. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!! :) :)

The redesigned Pella door is very nice and carries a lifetime warranty against that cladding going bad and allowing water in to that would rot out the rails, however it's super expensive. You could contact OKNA directly to see if they have any dealers that service your area. Unfortunately, Dave from Strong Windows passed away last year. The ProVia and Sunrise vinyl sliders are also very highly regarded.

Okna doesn't put blinds in the 8' door unless I'm mistaken.
We get down to the Northern Chicago suburbs, but unfortunately don't deal an 8' door with blinds... Perhaps Polaris if not Pella?

Thanks. Provia doesn't do them and Sunrise has 6' and 9' not 8'. Any other suggestions?

Probably going to have to be Pella at this point with the 8' opening. I don't know of anyone off the top of my head that does them in an 8' variant.

Alside will do an 8’ spd. The door is more drafty with a higher air leakage rating than the premium brands listed and warranty claims are a bear to deal with

On a good day they may give you 2 five’s for a ten.

rgzz, the common theme here is that they are not offered in high quality units as a general rule. A 4' wide panel is large and they have a higher ratio of service issues. Pella's are less concerning as at least the blinds are accessible for repair, whereas virtually all others are sealed in the IGU and that entire unit requires replacement if there is a defect.... Out of the two mentioned, I'd opt for the old Great Lakes (Plygem) door over the Alside.

For sure Pella has the best between the glass window treatment system.
Just wish their units did not rot in 8, 10 12 or 15 years.
