Help with a quote of Vytex Potomac.

#1 Post by dmbarney »

This is my first go at replacement windows and need some help with a window quote. I am here in NE Ohio and received a quote from a company here called Window Nation. I’m in need of 7 sliders, 2 double hung, 1 triple slider (2 sliders with solid window in the middle) and half circle window. All will have grids. Their best window is the Vytex Potomac HP series. They quoted me 14k installed. I have no problem paying that price if it’s a fair. We have an appointment with Renewal by Anderson in a few days and I’m sure they will come in higher. Thanks in advance of your thoughts on this quote!

The Potomac is a solidly built window. Without knowing more about the exact work scope details, its tough to give a accurate assessment on price, but it's certainly in the realm of normalcy.

With out the scope of work, window sizes and agg factors it is difficult to say.
But thinking it might be close to a normal project I would say the price is high.
RBA is not comparable and will probably be $27K +
You cna see if there is another Vytex dealer, probably not. Or also look for a Okna or Softlite dealer.

2 slider: 57x45
2 slider: 45x55

screens are the "Flex Screen"

Well that does it. The color and split finished grids easily adds 3k.
Plus I am guessing that the existing are metal?
All of that makes it closer to fair.

+1.

Easily in the range now. The split finish is an expensive option.

Thanks for the feedback Windows on Washington and WindowNerd! Much appreciated!
Like I said we have Renewal By Andersen coming out on Saturday… do you guys know if they have a line that would be equivalent to the Potomac HP?
I know they are going to be higher in price, just not sure what models of window they offer. Thanks

No real match. They are going to claim that a vinyl window is substandard while not telling you that their material is about 60% vinyl by constitution.

The reality is the the Potomac has better performance data. Go figure.

Thank's again, this forum has been very helpful! We are going to still hear out RBA, but from your input, I am leaning 98% towards the Potomac.

The Potomac is an excellent window and will outperform RBA in every single category.

Well Renewal quoted us 28k. Not going to happen! They did say that they can remove everything down to to original studs vs just cutting out the old window. I assumed that everyone would completely remove what we already have in place?? What is in there now is 10 year old replacement vinyl windows installed by previous owner. I think I am going to go with the Potomac installer. Do I need to make sure they pull out everything when replacing these windows? That was not really discussed, I just assumed they would. Why would you leave in the old frame? Seems half ~ job or is this normal? Thanks again for your input!!

Sounds more fantastic when they say "remove everything", but in this case, there is no scenario where that doesn't happen either way. I think you made the right choice.

“Pulling out everything” is a new construction install which will certainly add a lot more to the cost. That definitely would of been discussed so im sure your original pricing (potomac) was for replacement. Most times new constuction is not necessary.

masterext...they currently have replacement windows so everything that is there is coming out.

RBA doesn't do a new construction installation. They just sell a full tear out but they never install a finned window unless they are doing siding as well.
