Whole house windows replacement in DFW

#1 Post by voland »

Good morning everyone,

I have a 1996 built house with 26 original builder grade windows. Just about every one of them have failed and I am looking to replace them all. My budget was originally 30k and I was hoping to do the front of the house first, and sides and rear the following year. Primary goal is to lower heating/cooling bills and prepare the house for a solar system install within 5 years. Will also be adding radiant barrier and extra insulation in the attic in 2024 as well.

I have two quotes...

Option 1
Company: Larger company, franchise, they did my MILs house and it went just fine. good reviews, no BBB complaints etc.
Windows: NT windows 6000 series (its their midgrade option, double pane) Low E, Double Strength etc...
Price: 21,700 for the entire house
Upgrade: I can add foam insulation in the fiberglass frame for an additional $100 per window.

Option 2
Company: Local company, found them on next door. good reviews, no BBB complaints etc.
Windows: BURRIS WINDOWS - TECTVIEW AC - I dont know much about these windows...
Price: 19,900

Questions:
Is there a recommended company that I should get a quote from in DFW?
Is there a different window that I should be considering?
For NT windows, is adding the foam insulation in the frame worth the money? If someone could educate me on this or point to another thread that discusses this, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for all the help!

I would reach out to Randy at “Ultra Windows” and see if he serves your area. If he does, he would be my first choice by far. You will not find a better window contractor. He is also a super nice guy.

Hey Voland, unfortunately we don’t service the DFW market.

Of those two options, I prefer NT Windows as a brand. I wouldn’t bother with the foam insert. The fact that the company worked for your MIL, with no negative feedback is a big plus.

The only premium grade vinyl window that I know is available there, is locked up by a large statewide company that is charging way too much, so the pricing you have on the NT seems like a very fair deal.

I don’t have a company to recommend up there for you. Sorry.

Good luck with your project!

Thank you both! I will proceed with the NT Windows installer.

Out of curiosity, why not foam fill? Just not worth the upgrade?

You are in the wrong part of Texas. If you were closer to Houston...you'd get the king of windows in Texas.

Ha!

The foam insert provides negligible benefit for the uncharge, IMO.
