Simonton vs Kolbe Forgent Glastra

#1 Post by Anni »

We live in the Chicago area and are considering a full frame replacement of 32 casement, double hung, and picture windows in our house. We've gotten a bid from one installation company on Simonton 5500 brown exterior/white interior windows for $39,000 and Kolbe Forgent Glastra brown/white windows for $35,000. The double hung and picture windows from both companies are not energy star compliant for the northern zone. We can't find many reviews on the Kolbe Forgent Glastra windows at all save for the fact that the screens of the Kolbe product don't fit well. There is also a question about the amount of glass area lost on the Kolbe's. Does the brown exterior fade in the sun? Both companies have customer service/warranty issues.

What do you think about each of these windows? Which do you think would be better in the Chicago area? What other brands of windows at a comparable price would you recommend we consider?

I think you would be well served to keep looking based on your own assessment of the companies. Don't normally see the Simonton come in near the price of the Kolbe. The Kolbe would be considered a definitive premium over the Simonton in a vast majority of the comparisons.

Is that all you have available to you out there?
