Deciding between quoted window installs

#1 Post by XOnoa »

I'm not sure if this forum is the place for discussing window installers or just DIY, but here goes.

I've so far received 4 quotes for 5 double hung bedroom windows, 1 double hung tempered bathroom window, and 2 bay windows with casements on the sides.

Weather Tight: Appears to be Restorations manufactured triple pane windows
Quoted $41,216 down to $31,466 after "short time only" promos

Universal Windows Direct: Unishield Plus double pane windows
Quoted $22,500 down to $16,000 with no listed expiry date. They did contact me later and lower the price further, but they only had the non-bay windows in their quote system so I don't know what the final price on the whole thing would be

Rooftop Designs: Uses ProVia Endure double pane
Quoted $20,442 (or maybe $19,741. The email and the physical paper have different numbers)

Champion: Comfort 365 triple pane windows
Quoted $26,950 until tomorrow at 6pm, $34k and change after that

I am temped to discount the Champion on principle for attempting a FOMO-style sale on me, though it would be the lower of the two triple pane options at the promo price. I have another guy scheduled to quote on Monday, but obviously that would be bumping Champion up to the highest quote by waiting that long. I plan on seeing if I can get Rooftop Designs to quote out a triple pane option. The slot is on their paperwork but it wasn't filled in.

Any help on what I should go with, or even what kinds of things I should be considering when making my own decision would be greatly appreciated.

This is for 6 single double hung “replacement” and 2 bays? Do they need to construct a roof/ overhang for the bays? All windows are white in and out?
When i say single double hung, that is opposed to a twin or triple unit.

What area are you in? Does one of the contributing pros service your area?

Is Okna or Vytex product in your area?

One decent window in that selection but certainly nothing that is blowing my socks off. The question about roof kits can certainly contribute to total expense and where is the project region as Wayne mentioned? That will dictate the availability of products.

I am in SE Wisconsin.
I don't believe they have to construct any new roof, as I have almost 2 feet of soffit on the existing roof.
Yes, white in and out, almost all single windows as far as I know. I think that the WeatherTight guy said one window was too large for a single and would require a twin unit.

I will save you the trouble of worrying about it.

If you're anywhere in SE Wisconsin...call HomeSealed and Brandon and the guys. You won't find a better product of team of folks than you will in HomeSealed. He's in your backyard too!

Don't know about the install company, but Sunrise is pretty good. Casements are better than their dh's though.

Champion and UWD are a couple national chains, or shoudl I say one? It's the same corporation with two different "brands". Did you contact them both on your own, or did one mysteriously reach out after you inquired with the other? Neither are better than meh imo.

Rooftop? No thanks. I'll never understand why anyone would call a roofing company for windows. It's easy for any contractor to offer a low-skill commodity like roofing, the same can't be said about windows. The product offered confirms this, thats a window that only a roofer would use imo. Avoid.

HomeSealed has a great reputation, I'd give them a call.
