Windows for a screened in porch.
Windows for a screened in porch.
My Dad has a screened in porch that gets dirt and pollen and rain inside the rain is affecting the wooden ceiling so we were thinking about putting windows in.
Here is a picture of the porch.

The openings are about 7 foot by 5 foot.
It's North facing and we would not be heating or air conditioning the porch so the energy efficiency of the windows would not be an issue.
We would like picture windows to maximize the view and there is no need for them to be able to open.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to windows I know nothing about them. I just wanted to ask around and see what others though a good window option would be, and roughly what it might cost.
Thanks
Jim

Re: Windows for a screened in porch.
If they will make them that size...great. Seem a bit large for for a single unit unless it's exotic and exotic = expensive.
Should be easily done in a 2 Lite slider and that is going to give you max glass in any operable unit configuration.

Re: Windows for a screened in porch.
Based on the photo I would estimate those openings to be 9 to 10' wide and 7' high.
You can do operating windows or patio doors. In PD or SGD you could do a two panel slider in each opening. If you can find a single glazed aluminum product this would be the cheapest way to go.
If you want picture windows I am not sure about doing as singles. But as doubles with tempered glass should be doable.

Thanks for the replies.
I measured the openings and they are 57 inches high and 91 inches wide.
Could you give a rough ballpark of what the different option might run?
Thanks

Re: Windows for a screened in porch.
Finding a single glazed( monolithic) unit as a single or twin will be difficult.
If cost is not an issue contact a glass shop and ask them to quote with tempered store front.
Twin sliding windows to fill each opening is going to be the simplest to get done.
It can also be done as a single direct glazed tempered picture window either form AW E series, Pella Reserve, or Marvin. But the cost will be high. We just did a single PW 107" x 73" was $6k+ We could hardly lift it at 300lbs+.

Re: Windows for a screened in porch.
I will stick with my recommendation for a 2-Lite slider. Should work and if well supported and installed, will work just fine.

What would a rough ballpark price be for a twin sliding window?

Tough to say. Every market is individualized and that is a massive unit so I would really think about it as 4 windows when preparing for budgeting.

You will need two twin two section sliders.
I would budget for a low of $3600., to a high of $5000.
