Replacement window options with similar styling to Pella Architect series?

#1 Post by Auvie »

Hi all,

Our recently purchased home (built in ‘96) has all Pella Architect windows, many of which have badly rotted casement and picture sashes. Unfortunately Pella will not offer sash replacements for pre-2004 Architect windows, and their replacement quotes are quite expensive. We would like to consider other options.

We really like the mull sizing/styling of our windows, and so I'm wondering if there are other manufacturers that offer similar styling? Here is a photo of one our larger units that is a good example:

Only thing that will let you get that mull size, with that window set up, is gonna be wood.

You previously post this.
Either vinyl dead lite sash, or look at Marvin Essential insert replacement.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. It seemed that the outcome of my previous thread, about working within the existing Pella mulls and trying to replace the sashes, was that it was going to be a difficult/risky project to do. So I thought I would start anotheer thread about full replacement options (though ideally still preserving the outer frame). Apologies if I should have kept it all in the same thread.

I will look at Marvin windows, thank you. Are there any other wood window manufacturers worth looking at?

Is vinyl just not an option to mull together with wider gaps like ours? Even if the mulls were just flat, I could add trim after to make them look more like what we have (doesn't seem to be much more than a bit of flat stock and cove moulding). Anyway just spitballing here, trying to consider all options.

You can mull vinyl together, but everything (except multi-lite wood) will have bigger mulls.

If you do a full tear out/ full frame replacement I would still suggest the Marvin Essentials as they will have the smallest frame edge to visible glass dimension. But take a look at vinyl, that edge of frame to visible glass will be much different especially on the transoms

Thanks guys. I definitely do want to consider vinyl, but have yet to find any dealers/installers around here for the manufacturers I've seen mentioned on this board that are held in high regard.

So far, no dice on Okna and Soft-Lite. Sunrise came back with an installer located in St. Louis (over 200 miles away), and still waiting to hear back from HiMark. Let me know if there are any other brands I should look out for.

Good to know that HiMark is the same as Okna! I though their contact forms seemed very similar...

I found a good rep for Sunrise that does installs in this area, so we'll be taking a closer look at their offerings.

Thanks!
