Recommendation for dealer/installer in South-Central PA

#1 Post by Stover88 »

Hello everyone,

I live in a brick rancher from the 1950's in South Central Pennsylvania. I currently have double-pane vinyl windows (Label says M&D windows and siding) in place since 1989; I have some failed seals and broken hardware. I'm not in an immediate rush but wanted to start getting quotes for budget purposes with a plan of replacing in the spring. In my search over the last few months I've found the Jeff Lundy (Houston Window Experts) YouTube channel and from his list he recommended Zen windows. The guy I spoke to recommended Soft-Lite Classic plus because of more visible glass and not much difference in performance (I initially requested pricing on the Imperial based on reading through this forum). I also reached out to a local window installer.

The quote for 13 windows and 1 picture window (60x53):
Zen- $14k for foam filled sash, frame reinforcement, and single-strength glass. Soft-lite lifetime warranty and they have lifetime warranty on workmanship
Local guy- Only quoted for 8 Barrington Series at $7,600. He would come out to measure and quote the rest. 1 year workmanship warranty.

I intend on us staying in this house forever (we're in our 30's) so I don't mind investing in a high-quality window. It was interesting that both people just quoted Soft-lite (while they carry Anderson, Provia, etc) and while Soft-lite sounds good I don't like the fact that they want me to sign a contract before ever seeing the windows and won't provide references beyond online reviews. I'm also struggling to find other reputable dealers in the area. Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!

Kind regards,
Jason

I would ask to see the Soft Lite elements window, it's a phenomenal window as well as the Vytex Potomac or fortis.
They should both be available in your area. Reach out to both Soft Lite and Vytex and you will be directed to an authorized dealer.

Thank you for the guidance- I’ll reach out to the two tomorrow and see where they have them available. I hadn’t come across Vytex in my search but from what I just looked up the specs and pics look really nice

What town are you in?

I would suggest the Okna 800DX as first choice, 600DX as second choice.
Vytex HP Potomac is also excellent.

You want a draft free well built and warrantied window.
You want amazing install. You do not have to break the bank to get both, but you do have to be discerning.

I'm located in York, I didn't see that you serviced my county but certainly would be thrilled if you decided to come down! Okna looks really nice- I will contact the company to see where I can find a dealer. I can't thank you enough for your input; again, if you were to service York let me know!
