Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
I am in AZ, single story home with stucco and my 5 window have pop outs. The quotes I am getting seem really high compared to what others have been quoted in various states. Does this seem normal? Basic color option and single sliders.

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
What do you mean by "single sliders"? Is it a two paneled sliding unit where only one side slides (similar to a patio door)?
They are larger units and stucco is a hassle to work with. I'd say that the price seems to be a little high as well, however the 3 quotes seem pretty consistent (two vinyl quotes similar and then Infinity 2x) which makes me wonder if there is some confusion about the config/qty's.
They'd sound more in line is these were each twin double hungs, and that would make it 10 windows as opposed to 5. That would mean roughly $1k ea for vinyl and $2k ea for Infinity which would be within the norms.

X2 on Homesealed’s advice. At this point all you can you do is get some more bids. The installation details may help clarify things when going into stucco.
Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
They are sliders where pane of window is fixed and other moves. The basic option.

So the bids are for 2 section slider, OX or XO in function.
Will the new install us a stucco flange?
Will the existing frame ne removed or jumped?
Any tempered glass? What glazing?
Any other aggravating install factors?
Pictures help.

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
The first 2 pics are of my dining room window from outside and inside. I have 2 in there. None of my windows need tempered glass as they are not by a door, all 2ft above floor and not in a bathroom. I just went with standard glass that comes with them. I am getting Dual pane, low e, argon. AZ is hot. My original aluminum windows are from 2006 and the weather stripping is peeling off.
They said it will require Vinyl flange (thicker frame to cover my existing frame.) Supposedly I will still see some my black aluminum frames which I don't like.
Existing frame jumped since I have stucco. It's easier to do, but doesn't look as good.
Not sure about glazing. The last pic (largest window) is for my living room. It is higher off the ground than the others. Should only need a ladder to install.

You don't "need" to see the frames interior. They should be able to trim those out.

You are going to loss 2.75 up to 3.25" of your interior pocket depth with a frame jump. But your stucco will not be damaged.
On the exterior we would cap over the old frame interfacing the cap to the new window and the stucco band.
In my neck of the woods with a high performance vinyl unit I would do that work for $1200 a window.

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
Good additional info. Gotta say, it does seem a bit pricey especially for a frame-jump install, but that could well be the going rate in your region. Only way to confirm would be another quote or two, although the existing three do seem to indicate this.
Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
Thank you for the responses and advice. I did get another quote from Desert King for Anlin Del Mar E Series at $6600 which was great and more in line with what I would like to spend.
But, after more research, we are now leaning toward fiberglass, Infinity by Marvin. The company owner claims its better than vinyl since the heat in AZ makes vinyl expand and contract and we would need to keep caulking around it since the vinyl eventually sags and a jump in frame install isn't as good as full removal. Will fiberglass be a more durable option in our climate with more longevity?
Owner of Capstone Window and Doors in Phoenix quoted $13,500 (Infinity by Marvin) which will include removal of existing frames. Just curious if that seems high?

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
Might be high.
Based on the color and location I do like the fiberglass better for your project.
Look for a window guy that will quote both Essentials by Marvin or Pella Impervia.

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
I don’t like Pella because the texture of the frame looks like duct tape. Is Marvin Essentials same as infinity by Marvin? Same quality and specs?
What should be the price range for infinity for my project?
Thank you

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
I can not give you exact pricing.
I do not work in your neighborhood/area.
I do not sell Infinity, it is a special program product for 1 or 2 dealers in a given market. Pricing usually higher as they have higher mark up and marketing cost.
Marvin Essentials will get it done for you, also provide larges selection of contractors.

Re: Quotes for 5 windows seems high?
I had another quote on Infinity at 14,500 Bronze color
and Marvin Essentials and 11,700 bronze color
The Infinity salesman said they can install Essentials, but don’t recommend it anymore because it has issues. He said it’s not all fiberglass as the inside is abs plastic.
I spoke with another salesman (really upfront and couldn’t beat my quotes) from Dreamstyle and he said he has vinyl, renewal by Anderson and Infinity in his home. He prefers Infinity, but says RBA has a nicer screen. He used to work for RBA and now Infinity. Been in window sales 7 years. He struggled the first year and almost had to cash out his 401k to survive. Now he is at 200k and some windows salesman can earn that and more, but its alot of driving and hours. Maybe 3 out 10 buy. Amazing! I told my husband who is 73 and works hard in this AZ heat as a commercial electrician that he is the wrong business. lol!
I have really learned a lot these last few weeks. It’s my First time shopping for windows. I don’t think every salesmen is truly honest or they just don’t know their product that well and there is much misinformation.
Thank you for all the input. We are going with the infinity. Its just a matter of which company to go with. The one that is a $1000 less is family owned and very personable with great reviews and has installation warranty for only 2 years and the other is lifetime. Not sure why the difference and if install warranty length is a big factor.

Sounds good. Glad you are noodling through it with a good baseline of knowledge.
