Need expert advice for a non-glass person

#1 Post by SRK20 »

Hello all,

I am not sure if this is the correct forum. But I am sure there are tons of experience here that I hope can point me in the right direction.

I have an unusual project. I have two (2) small window glass sized at 12" by 10". I want to cover these glasses with a frosted pane glass on the interior side of the glass.

What is the best way to mount the frosted glass onto the the existing clear glass and how can I keep it in place?

I am not very good with using caulk, or using frosted sheets, or glue. Is there any type of adhesive I can try to use? I did try using a Locite glass glue, but that burned through the frosted side, and I ended buying another piece of frosted glass. I've seen videos of using Elmers glue, but that doesn't have lasting power.

I do not know what to do.

Any expert (and hopefully easy ideas) that I can try?

Thank you ahead of time.

If you are using a film, follow the instructions. typically I precut the pieces and use a soap/water mixture and pull the mixture out with some type of squeegee.
It goes on like window tint in most cases.

If I understand your question correctly you are trying to glue one piece of glass directly to another...if so, can I ask why? If you have privacy concerns, then using a piece of frosted film, as Todd suggested, would probably be a better idea.
Otherwise, depending on what you are trying to accomplish, there might be a few different options.

Thank you Oberon and Toddinmnm(sp?).

I tried the frosted film, but I am not very good when doing it and it did not come out as nice as the videos I used as guidance.

I then thought getting frosted pieces of glass and have stick to the current glass would be easier for my all thumb'd hand can handle.

I am very terrible when it comes to precision work like this. Caulk and me are mortal enemies. But haven't tried flex caulk thing.

Maybe mounting a frosted piece of glass is not as simple as I am thinking. But I am willing to try anything a this point. If using frosted sheets are the way to go, can someone guide me to a video and/or type of sheets to buy?

If mounting the frosted pieces of glass is "doable", please offer your guidance as well. I am willing to try anything/everything as this point.

Thank you ahead of time!!!

Silicone works well for glass to glass
Bonding but you may see the spot where where the silicone was compressed . You will need to to tape in place till it bonds . Hot glue would work well also and would set quick.

Based on your personal ability I suggest you hire some one to do the filming for you.

Thank you Todd. I will look into this.

Have you ever used the Privacy paint for glass? It applies a frost layer as well. Here is what I found while looking for the silicone bonding:

Frosted Glass Paint for Window - Window Privacy Paint, Frosted Glass Spray, Waterproof & UV Resistant, for Glass Surface in Bathroom, Kitchen, Room, Sliding Door, 32oz (with tools)

Is this doable?

Not a fan of the sprays, but they may work for you. Test it out first. This is not an area I really dabble in But have worked with films before but never again. My opinion is to swap the glass out.
