Our 80 YO stone/frame house needs new windows and siding.
Windows: 26 wood DH, 4 casement.
We want better performance (not hard to get ), but keep the character of the house. We're going to be keeping this house for 15+ years, and we want easy maintenance and better curb appeal
We "grew up" thinking Anderson made good windows. That doesn't seem to be true. We are considering 400 woodwright series for custom size requirements
Three local contractors have suggested Paradigm windows. We will talk with people who have these windows before we decide. All Paradigm windows are made-to-measure
Questions:
The oldest stone part of the house has 18" thick walls, and plaster runs up to the inside edge of the windows. Should we use insert windows for these 8 windows? The remaining windows are in stud framing and will be full tear-out.
What DISADVANTAGES do Anderson windows bring to the table?
I read some comments about water penetrating under the vinyl-cladding. Is this a common problem?
Does anyone have experience with Paradigm (manufactures in Maine)?
Thanks in advance for your help!!
