Gorell Quote Comments appreciated

Posted At: 2004-08-13 01:26:08

Had contacted Sears a week ago earliest they could schedule appt. for an estimate was mid September. Found this site 5 days ago requested an estimate. That very same day a Gorell dealer called and scheduled an appointment for the following day. He was very nice and not pushy at all. Based on the comments posted on this site seems like a quality product. He quoted an all inclusive price of $15,800 for 22 windows which includes 2 Bay windows. They are double hung seris 5300-Argon Gas- AC Master. The Bay windows are Model 7045. This seems like a fair price but again based on comments in this site it appears most of you negotiated on the original price quoted. Should we ask him to sharpen his pencil a little? We live in Florida so need Miami/Dade County approved windows. Should we get a second quote for a comparable window from another company and if so what brand window should we compare the Gorell with? Should I wait 4 weeks for the Sears estimate?

Thank you in advance for your quidance.

Marie

Gorell has a great product. The 5300 is a fine window. The AC Master is a good glass option, but you may want to step up to a armor glass or thermal master III. I rum across Sears frequently, they are, in my opinion too pricey for their line... Gorell is a good choice overall....

Even More Confused Please Advise

Last month I posted a question re Gorell double hung vinyl replacement windows (22 windows). Thank you DM for your response. Due to the hurricane in Florida and a house full of people we put off making any decision. Fortunately we were not in Charlie's path but some of our relatives and friend were. Our home is a licensed Assisted Living Facility for Alzheimers. We have old single pane windows but also storm shutters and are considered a safe house and hurricane shelter. We want to replace the old casement type windows due mainly to the cranks not working properly and some of the glass panes being loose. Recent discussions involved Double Hung vs Single Hung. The Gorell quote was for double hung. We are on a limited budget and are in the process of having additional quotes. The home is 30+ yrs old. Any thought to what type/brand of window we should look into would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to waste the window man's time or mine by having the wrong windows quoted. The home is a ranch so double hung not necessary for easy cleaning purposes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Marie from "sunny" Florida
