Replacing an awning window

Posted At: 2004-08-13 21:43:13

I live in a house that was constructed in 1988. My problem window is vinyl clad and has a large fixed pane above and an integral awning window below. Some of the wood in the awning window has rotted out. I would like to replace the awning window without replacing the large fixed pane. I am unable to identify the manufacturer of the window since I can find no manufacturer designation on the window. Do you have any suggestions on how I could find out who the manufacturer was or any ideas on how I can find a replacement awning window?

Awning Window

Jerry, I wouldn't recommend trying to change out the awning window unless you can physically see it's not attached to the above transom unit. If they are attached the units will be difficult to seperate. Usually when made they are sharing the same side rails. If they are built box construction stye and nailed togethe you will find wafer nails behind the trim casing and brickmold. You'll have to try and cut through that seem and pray to god they didn't use any adhesive to join the units together. If they did you'll never get it apart without damage to the upper window. Just be careful at all times!!!
