Interesting info about HD and Simonton

Posted At: 2004-08-20 19:06:27

I will begin by saying that I have nothing against HD, and am a frequent shopper at their stores.

Now, to all that are looking into Home Depot Renovations 6500 series: get a quote from another installer for the Simonton Impressions 7500. From what I have seen, these are the same windows, Simonton being the manufacturer of the Renovations exclusively for HD.
Now why should you look? Here's why:

Quote by HD for an 8x5 Renovations 6500 double slider: 1,680$
Quote by installer for the same window with the Simonton Impressions 7500: 1,150$

And the same 500$ difference applies to patio doors.

Warranties are the same, including glass breakage. So to us, the 500$ difference was simply not justifiable, however nice the HD sales rep. was

So Window shoppers, if you like the Renovations 6500, give the Impressions 7500 a look, that may save you some money!

Grasshopper's going to be mad!!!! Home Depot's windows do get a little more than just the stock Impressions window. I think they get a thicker glass and probably some other bells and whistles. No matter who you buy from it pays to source things out. You'll be the wiser for it!

I wonder what market you're in WA Guy? My 96"x60" Renovations 6500 slider here in Texas is only $690 installed.

Plus I warranty the entire window for life. Labor and craftsmanship included. Larry, Mo & Curly Window Co. won't do that.

I just paid $2017 each for both of my 6' patio doors. And I couldn't be happier. They are awesome.

No one is mad here Guy. I encourage all of my customers to shop around. I guess that's why 50% of my appointments buy from me. I offer them the best value for their hard earned money.

It's location Grasshopper. If you came here to MN you would have to look uo to see bottom. Bank on it. I have never in five years lost any job to HD. You may have a market there but not here. Remember talk is cheap. I still have many friends in HD. Give me your store number and I'll compare you to some other stores. Then we'll see where the chat is. I'll for surely bet my little installation crews will install more windows in one year than your store and a couple others put together! No National backing just a small Ma - Pa business. One thing I don't do here is sell myself as you do. The product I sell is better than yours and my customer knows it. When everyone wakes up and smells the coffee the game changes. As a matter of fact I'll check with my pals and find out if any HD stores track a 50% success level. Doubt it Grasshopper. Maybe a 50% BS sale!!! It's to deep in here. I was starting to like you a bit but you've stepped down again with the arrogant talk.

Note to Grasshopper

Grasshopper,

I called you on the warrantee before and hesitate to do it again because I know where this is going to go.

On Home Depot's website where it mentions the warrantee there is a quote, "In addition, in case of a product failure the manufacturer's limited lifetime warrantee covers all costs for replacement (product, labor, freight) and is non-prorated and transferable."

I have talked to HD personnel in the window department on several occasions and they tell me that the manufacturer, not HD, is responsible for all warrantee issues, even on installed sales. This is consistant with the what's on the website.

What I think you're saying, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that if my window has a defect in 10 years someone from HD will come out and fix it. Even if HD drops Simonton when their contract is up someone from HD will fix the window. I say that's wrong, at least according to the warrantee I read and the writing on the website.

I am requesting (again) that you post your warrantee that shows this level of commitment since I can't find it anywhere on the website.

I would appreciate an answer such as, "You're wrong and here is the warrantee." Or, "You're right. The warrantee is covered by the manufacturer."

I'm in the Seattle area, and I agree with you that the price seems outrageous. Not sure why there is such a discrepancy between here and Texas.
