Concerning Ultra Maxx, Sheffield, and more

My personal opinion is that the Ultra Maxx is a reasonably sturdy product, made by a reputable company.

However, in no way does ANYONE consider it a premium product, as I believe it's a simple double glazed, argon filled window with a PPG Intercept spacer. It's equipped with a pocket sill.....meaning the lower sash on the double hung drops into a pocket recessed into the sill.....which few experts around here like very much. I don't think this window is designed with much 21st Century technology; then again, it isn't priced that way.

The Sheffield product..... a step-up from Ultra Maxx.....is clearly the top product among the Alside-branded windows. It eliminates the pocket sill, and adds a few other features the Ultra Maxx doesn't have. I understand that it IS available with triple glazing in certain areas of the country, though I don't know where that is. On balance, that particular window is pretty well regarded around here. You might ask your dealer for an alternative quote on Sheffield, because I don't know the price differential between it and Ultra Maxx.

To confuse you even further, I've just purchased the Preservation line of replacement windows, which are also made by Alside. It's their absolute top-of-the-line; basically, a completely maxed-out Sheffield with about every feature in the book.

However, you'll see little if any reference to Alside with Preservation. They are trying very hard to differentiate it (from a Marketing standpoint) from the rest of the Alside line. In a matter of speaking, Preservation is a Lexus, and Sheffield would be the top-of-the-line Toyota. If you're interested in learning more about Preservation, punch up http://www.preservationcollection.com

Of course, you'll find info on Ultra Maxx and Sheffield at http://www.alside.com

Thank you wvuguy. I will look into the Preservation line from Alside. I was told that the Ultramax & Sheffield are the same price. The saleperson I talked to about Alside Ultramax stated that there would be some air leakage. Isn't that one top reason to replace windows? I have tried to find Schuco Window Co. on the net but didn't succeed. We need 6 approx 28 x 45 windows, and do not want to be disappointed when all is said & done.

Hi again - When I started I did not realize how much I had to learn. Thanks to everyone who has utilized this web site to pass on what they know. I am still interested in seeing a Schuco window, but I have not been able to locate a dealer. I have tried their web site; I have tried to get information by phone where I am transferred to Customer Service which receives only messages and I do not get a return call. I live in central Iowa very near Des Moines. Does anyone know if there is a dealer in this area? For my situation I have eliminated the Sheffield; have a bid on Preservation; am waiting for a bid on Marvin Integrity. Assuming I do not locate a Schuco dealer, which of the above two would you suggest. (The Preservation was less than $100.00 more, total bid, than the Sheffield and I haven't a clue what the Integrity bid might be.) Again thank you so very much as I have read many pages of questions and answers.
