Replacement Windows Annapolis, MD

Posted At: 2004-08-25 19:08:00

After reading the posts, I am copletely overwhelmed by the amount of information and different opinions out there.

I have been quoted $8,000 from a local manufacturer / installer for 12 27x54 windows and a 54x30 half moon. Is this in the ballpark or should I shop around? (salesman was great, company has been around for 30 years, saw a house in the neighborhood that used the same company and everything looks fine from the outside)

Does anybody here know anything about Thompson Creek Windows? Or any other reputable companies in the Annapolis, MD area?

Many posts on this board agree that midlevel vinyl windows installed should come in around $25 to $30 per square foot. These windows will meet Energy Star requirements and carry a good warranty. Your figures indicate that you are paying $55. per sq/ft. I would continue shopping if I were you.

I had trouble getting much info at all from their website as there basically is none. I checked the NFRC ratings and found that the spacer is swiggle seal and they do NOT use any gas to fill their glass units.
The one thing that was said on the website was that they were proud of the fact that their slimline design could give you as much as 2" of extra glass on their windows than the average window...... 2"inches?? Just how skinny ARE their frames? The NFRC ratings says there is no metal reinforcement in them either.
I'd be real weary. This sounds no better than a cheap builders type unit to me, and the price sounds really high for this type of window. Check some more windows out and don't make a rash decision.

I just signed a contract today with U.S. Window Corp for Therma-Lux windows...they are near you in Laurel, I think. I'm in DC. I think I'm going to cancel the contract. I'm moving too fast and keep hearing negative info about this guy and his company. I was very suspicious because all the info he gave me was very old, like the brochures, etc. One of his competitors also told me that he is selling me a window he advertises in the Washington Post for $168 for a lot more than that. I'm really fed-up with all of these snakes!!!

I will definitely stay away from U.S. Window Corp. I just got off the phone with somebody from Carterworx (also in Laurel). They sounded as if they had a broad range of products. I will be curious to see where their pricing comes in.

Edward thanks for the info on the pricing ... it kinda put in perspective for me. I will definitely shop around. I have a guy coming out next Monday to give me a quote. He carries Gorell, Simonton, and other brands. Maybe, i will be able to get a better price.

I agree their website gave very little details on their product and the literature they gave me had even less info (which really makes me more apprehensive). I appreciate the fact that you took the time to go their website and do some research. If you had to pick a decent middle of the road window, what would it be? Just curious.

As I mentioned in another post below, I have a guy coming on Monday who carries Gorell, Simonton, and three or four other brands. Hopefully, his pricing will be better or at least his product will be.

Thanks again.
