Need More then a Group Hug

My original post never made it to the board last night, it was there when I checked after posting, so I will try again. Maybe it was too long so will post a shorter version. I wish I had seen the posts re: RULES FOR BUYING WINDOWS FOR YOUR HOUSE, earlier, but do not have a computer at the house. I have tried to educate myself re: windows and have learned so much from this site. On late Friday afternoon we met with the rep from PFT (the one who was 2 hrs late on Thurs and asked to reschedule). Hubby and I had discussed what we wanted and how much we thought we should pay prior to the reps arrival as the company ad did say 20%-30% off good on initial visit only. We also tried to check the company's business record and found no complaints. Apparently they are the largest in Florida. I had been up for 56 hrs straight with my Alzheimer ladies (had two eight hour breaks which I spent on computer and errands) so I was a little tired. After over 2 hrs. and many calls the rep made to his office for approval, we did sign a contract. Bottom line $14,000 if we signed right then, $22,000 if we waited till the following day thru 30 days. We agreed to the $14,000 if he would include a sliding glass door and upgraded the single pane glass to double pane. Also wanted $7,000.00 deposit but agreed to $2,000. We do have 3 business days to change our minds. We will check back with the Gorell rep since his quote was for seris 5300 double hung tilt out vinyl frame with double pane glass and 2 bow windows. The PFT windows are aluminum frame sliders. This may be comparing apples to oranges. I want to also check Shucho if available and approved in my area.

As far as the list of Guy's 10 RULES, I broke all but #6 and #8 and I am sure I did not break #10. Guess I need a group kick in the rear and not a group hug.

PS. Thank you FenX for your email.

PS2. Tim, I am still waiting since early August for my Free Insider's Guide to Replacement Windows.

I posted yesterday? I think Tim might be taking stuff down. He may be upset with some of the negative posting. So I'm going the straight and narrow!

Marie, Sorry to hear you ran into difficulties with your order. The bottom line is it's whatever makes you comfortable. The best thing to do is look at all your resources first. Then weigh the options and decide from there. Don't be hasty with deciding for a special discount on the first visit. I'll bet the car these people will come back and sign a contract if you waive the Doe Ray Me in front of their nose. It's just like buying a home or vehicle. You are spending a boat load of money and need what's best for Marie. Remember we just offer the wisdom developed from time. Opinions on what we think is good seems to conflict and anger others. So Marie I know we try our best. Good Luck!!
