Windows and Colors.

Posted At: 2004-09-05 05:13:59

I am currently going through the task of replacing our windows. I am new, and just found this site through a search. I have one quote for Milgard windows, and one quote for WindowMaster from Home Depot.

We have a house built in the 50's, it currently has crank single glass windows with wood framing. Except for one window which has no framing, in the front of the house. The wood frame is painted green.

Should I have the frames removed and allow the windows to provide the white frame, or should I keep the wood, and hav e the windows installed, leaving the windows white, and the part of the window in the middle, where it slides would also be white. Do you think that would look weird. Plus I want to get a frame on the other 95" x 58 1/2" window on the front of the house, but if I keep the current wood, trying to get it to match would be difficult.

p.s I live in Long Beach, CA, so any recommendations for window installer in this area would be great. Reasonable priced of course. :)

Thanks

Mark

Mark, Have your sales people talked to you about wrapping (capping) your existing exterior? They should have if they didn't. We do it on almost every job. You can have your trim wrapped in aluminum to make them maintenance free. No more painting. The best thing is you have a rainbow of colors to choose from. Green is a common choice. Your window that is different can be made to look the same by adding some brickmold or framing around it to match. A good installer should be able to mimic this no problem. Making a frame to go in first has also been done many times! Hope this helps.

Mark, one of my manufacturers is in Hesperia, near Victorville. They make a vinyl window with a green exterior. They used to have problems in the past with the colors being scratched coming out of the factory. They used to send out the frames to a third party for coloring, but since they began doing it themselves, they have eliminated most of the problems. If you want more information, go ahead and send me an email. Take care.

Thanks Guy and John. I think that Guy's idea of wrapping the frame, might be the best idea. That can get all the windows to look the same.

Thanks again

Mark
