Subject: | NewPro Windows - Fair Deal? |
Posted At: | 2004-09-16 15:03:58 |
Hello,
We just had a Newpro rep come by last night. These windows are the composite material; which he explained (and thru my web research) seem to be the rolls royce of windows. Triple paned; use krypton gas(heavier than argon), and most importantly a 50 year warranty from soup to nuts. Since they manufacture AND install the windows, the warranty is iron clad. Glass breaking, fogging, condensation, gaps; everything is covered.
For 9 windows (we are only doing to upstairs right now), all decent sized (we live in a Colonial), he quoted us $9620. I know this is a decent premium to pay compared to vinyl. My question is; is it worth it??? And, is this a fair price for those who have experience with Newpro?? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated; my wife & I aren't loaded and this would be a major investment. Thanks for any help.

You say that NewPro is the manufacturer. Then who is devco on the NFRC label?

Just called devco; Newpro is the New England distributor for the devco windows. I don't think it changes any of the variables involved; or do you think I should press the Newpro sales rep to make sure? Curious, do you have any thoughts or experience w/ newpro?

No experience with this brand but would like to point out that you are at the top of the greed chain price wise. Your average size 9 windows probably total less than 150 square feet of windows and that would work out to about $70. per sq/ft. Why not try out your negotiating skills and get the price down. Several posts indicate that $700 to $800 per window is a good average for this type of window. Good luck.

Thanks curious. It's a major decision; like many homeowners, I can think of hundreds of things I'd rather do with $9600 than spend it on windows; and only 9 at that. My dad thinks I'm crazy; he just thinks I should repair/reputty the existing windows. Looking at the cost, I can't say I'm not thinking about it; even though it is a ridiculously labor intensive & aggravating job. I'm really torn.

I carry the Devco composite window, and I am in the process of bringing on the Schuco window line.
1. The Schuco Corona 4000 is a better built window
2. The Schuco Corona 4000 is less expensive
3. The Schuco Corona 4000 has better NFRC results
I have had multiple Devco windows come in out of square, from the manufacturer (left jamb shorter or longer than the right).
If you can find a Schuco dealer in your area, or a Simonton dealer, you would be better off.

Thanks for your post Randy. Is the Schuco Corona 4000 a composite window; or vinyl? Newpro has come down to $7980 for 9 windows, installed. Would the Schuco be comparable? What is the warranty on the Corona 4000? Newpro is good for 50 years; which seems to cover everything. Thanks for any info.
