Product quality vs. installation

Posted At: 2004-09-18 02:30:03

Regarding vinyl window replacements, I have a choice.

I could go with a what seems like a good product (life time warranty, superspacer, PPG SunClean Glass), but I can't find any reviews on the company (VPI) It is offered by a local contractor who I know provides excellent installation.

Or, go with a contractor who carries a better product(trying to find a local Polybau dealer in Colo. Sprgs) but I do not know anything of their installation quality.

Which is more important top grade installation or product?

Nancy -

From what I've seen the pros say, they're kinda/sorta equal. A bad install can make a great window poor and a great install can make a poor window good. A great install of a great window is super!

Hang in there and I'm sure that one of the pros or someone from your area will be able to provide some info. Another avenue you could possibly take would be to contact the window MANUFACTURER and see if they would recommend an installer that they KNOW does things right. I'm sure they'd rather recommend an installer that has few, if any, installation warranty claims than someone they know is an axe.

Of course, if you are SURE that the local guy you referred to does good work, it might be worthwhile to see if he can get the window you want and install it.

Best of luck :)

I would think the window your good installer is using is a good window. I would tend to tilt his direction. The best window in the world is junk unless installed right.
