slim-line vinyl replacement window

Posted At: 2004-09-24 02:02:59

Hello,

I'm looking for some information. In May 1998 I contracted to have Slim-line vinyl replacement windows installed. They are great. However, all of the windows are double-hung except for one window in the kitchen which is a crank out. We have had a problem with this window as the locking mechanism has snapped off twice and the window cannot fully close and so it has become drafty in the winter. Unfortunately, the contracter who installed the windows passed away about 2 years after the windows were installed and we had the locking mechanism replaced once while he was still alive and in the past 6 months the mechanism has broken off again and now the windows don't close tightly and of course, don't lock. I do not know who to call, I called a couple local window places and have not had any help.

Can you help? There is obviously something wrong as to why the locking mechanism continues to snap off, this being the second time, whether it is a window defect or original installation defect I don't know.

You will probably have to replace the entire window. Be sure to use an exprienced installer as this type of window must be installed absolutley plumb in addition to level and square.
