Milgard Dealer or Installer in Maryland

Posted At: 2004-09-27 03:31:07

I live near the freeway and am considering Milgard's Quiet Line for replacement windows.

Anyone know of a location in Maryland (or DC area) where I can check out Milgard Windows?

I am very curious about the sound reductive qualities of the Milgard QuietLine, but dont want to spend thousands and still hear the noise.

Thanks in advance. This is by far one of the most helpful resources on the Web for folks in search of replacement window info.

Prepare to spend a fortune. A 36 x 60 Quiet Line could cost you $1000 - $1500.00 installed. The Quiet Line was designed for use around airports.

I recently installed a house full of Milgard vinyl windows for a customer who built a house 150 yards away from a railroad line. We used laminated glass over 1/4" glass for sound deadening and he is very happy. Even though these windows were pricey, they weren't nearly as pricey as the Quiet Lines.

You might visit the Milgard website to look for a local dealer.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.
It sounds like this solution may be one that could work for me.

Can you provide details on the Milgard model and what precise options were ordered?
Was the vinyl window model Milgards "Classic" or "Style Line"?

In addition to being laminated, was the glass Tempered and/or gas filled?

I assume the window had double glazing. Were both panes 1/4 inch? I have heard using different thickness, say 1/4 and 1/8 can reduce sound transmission over using two panes of equal thickness.

Thanks for the information.

First of all, it was a ranch style home, and every bedroom had a set of exterior doors which opened onto the very large covered porch. Therefore, none of the windows were required to be operational. Every window we put in the home were Classic picture windows.

As to the glass, the outer pane was 7/16" laminated, and the inner pane was 1/4". Argon was not included, as Milgard cannot provide Argon fill from their plant in Denver, CO, due to the elevation changes from there to here.

Thanks much for the info.
What was the per window cost difference using the Milgard vinyl and the specs you mention (laminated, 7/16, 1/4) over the $1,000-$1,500 per window installed cost of the Milgard Quiet Line?

I have the Renewal By Anderson folks quoting me laminated, 1/4 inner and outter panes, gas filled, Fibrex, double hungs, with Pine interior for about 1,150 per window installed. The STC rating on this window is 38.

I have read both good and bad about Fibrex and RBA. I am trying to get an education here, but $16,000 for 14 windows is real hard to swallow.

I have friends who have had bryn mawrs and comparable vinyl replacements done for about $500 installed per window. Granted that those cases did not have a sound problem to address, so this could be apples to oranges as comparisons go. I am just looking to get a) my sound problem remediated and b) good value for the money. For the lay person its hard to know.

Thanks again,
bruce
