PLACING TINT ON PICTURE FRAME WINDOW

Posted At: 2004-09-30 14:50:48

Please be advised that I am considering placing tint on my picture frame window in the living room. The type of tint I'm interesting in is, "one can see out of the windowm and no one can see in from the outstide". Does the window need to be replaced or can I just put the tint over the window? Please advise.

Your consideration in this matter is truly appreciated.

Thank You.

Cynthia,

It is really impossible to give you a specific answer without more details.

What is the window make-up (IG, single-pane, Low-E)...
and a bit more information about the film - is it a tint? Is is recommended as a heat or sun block?

Years ago, I put a window tint film on all my windows in my first house, and it made a big difference in the inside temperature.

Advantage - during the day you can stand at the window and easily look out it but it is near impossible for anyone outside to see you at the window or to see inside the house. Make you feel kind of 'invisible'.

Disadvantages - during night you really can't look out the window if it is lighted inside the house because of reflections. Being 'invisible' during the day, you begin to think that you are also 'invisible' at night to outsiders looking in, and that is not true at all - you are more visible! You forget it often. You really have to remember to close your blinds and drapes at night. Also since people can't see in during the day, they can't see your nice drapes and shades. And it kind of makes your house look unoccupied.
