This is simple. Ask each of the manufacturer's how they fare on the forced entry requirement. This will answer it for you.

If what you have is actually 12' x 8' OXXO sliding doors, they are pretty common. I would not go with aluminium unless for some reason, you have to. Vinyl, Fiberglass, or Wood Clad is far preferrable for resale. Marvin (the brand that I am most familiar with) has sliding, sliding French and both in ...

Unless it is different where you live, you are not going to be able to replace the sliders with single hungs (without making them larger than the sizes you gave) in your bedrooms unless you have some other means (a door?) to get out in case of emergency. Check with your building department or your w...

Without seeing specifically which window you are talking about. Visual light transmission is the amount of light that the glass lets into your home. A .47 sounds like a tinted glass. I always tell my customers that number is great in the summer but will make for a dreary room in the winter. That is ...

Patio Door
Most of the major wood manufacturers have replacement or retro sizes. Marvin's door has a rough oprning of 70 5/8" for their 6065 door so don't despair.

The old adage holds true (even with doors and windows): you get what you pay for. I would not replace your existing with a metal door. Go with a good quality vinyl or wood. Milgard also makes vinyl. Look at Marvin as well as Andersen and Integrity from Marvin. A local company in the Walnut Creek are...

Old Window Weights
Yes, there is a market for them. Check your local Yellow Pages and look for companies that either make wood windows or recycle wimdows and doors. Here in norhern California, such companies would be Urban Ore (recyclers) or Wooden Window (manufacturer of wood windows). You may even make something and...
