i lost window area. my windows were thin aluminum. all glass. when i replaced with vinyl i also upgraded to an even thicker frame(it get hot here). i replaced all and dont notice any loss. what i like is the thicker frames. they look more like real windows than the aluminum. they look like nice wind...

i would be suspicious of the higher bid. there is likely more difference in the labor than window cost. look at an example of the cheaper bidders work. look at both. i wouldnt assume more cost equals better window/install. sometimes cheaper is better for other reasons as well.
