Back again after a long visit from my inlaws. Thanks for all the input so far. W4U- So with the snap in sill that the sheifield uses and the pocket sill that Gilkey use's, wouldn't Gilkey's bottom sash be way up high like the Sheffield's? I need to make another visit to the Gilkey showroom to look a...

Thanks again for the pictures to explain the differences. That picture really shows a large difference between the two. I still have my ww quote for $2900 (6000 series) Gilkey at $3400 A quote from a local co. that sells and installs Alside Sheffields for $3380 I am now looking for a company that ca...

Thanks window4u for the pictures showing the difference between the sills.

So, between the Gilkey with the pocket sill, the Sheffield with the sloped sill and Simonton 9800 with the stepped sill . Should my order of preference be:

1. Sheffield
2. Simonton 9800
3. Gilkey

Thanks again

The windows with the sloped sills, do they actually do a better job of removing water and keeping it away from the the window structure?

Thanks skydawggy, I will check out the simonton line of windows.

pocket sill vs sloped sill

Which is better? What are the advantaged/disadvantages of each one? It seems that the better windows have the sloped sill but people say that Gilkey is a great window yet, it has a pocket sill. The ultra max has a pocket sill and isn't a good window because of that. The sheffield is better because i...

I called alside today, and they told me that they do make the windows for window world. They also said that the comfortline 6000 at window world represents the ultramax and the sheffield. The 4000 is the excalibur. I called window world of lexingon and they confirmed that they sell the ultramax and ...

Waterguy Good luck with your windows and the installation. I haven't made my decision yet. It will either be Window world's 8 double hung 6000's for $2900 or Gilkeys 8 for $3400. I like both windows but am still confused on the 6000/ultra max. Ultra max seems to get good reviews but not if window wo...

Thanks everyone for your replies. Waterguy your ramblings do help. Thanks for the advice with Champion. Please post after you check out WW showroom. I'm interested in what you think of them. I was fairly impressed with their window. The salesman will actually remove a window then will step all over ...

Thanks for your reply windowman. I am leaning towards Gilkey. I have heard only positive comments about their windows. The comfortworld 6000 looks like a good window also, but there have been so many conflicting comments about this window and that company, I'm not sure it is worth the risk to save t...

Window world, Champion or Gilkey

Hello everyone. I have had 3 quotes on windows so far, and I live in the central Ky area. I am looking to replace 8 wood double hung windows, all in the 38x68 size range. The quotes are for double hung, low E, half screen, and wrapping the exterior trim and sills. I am looking for a good mid priced ...
