Re: Percentage of Vinyl
I had posted a reply to Skydawggy's post. He had said something like if vinyl continues to be a mainstay, then a recycled component to the vinyl could be a positive (or something like that). I think Skydawggy must have edited his post. I had asked if there was any reason why recycled vinyl couldn't ...

Re: Ply Gem Great Lakes Seabrooke replacement windows
Windows on Washington: When you say you hope vinyl windows will mostly be made from recycled content, do you think that regrind should be used for structural vinyl components as well - if done right and profiles meet spec? I guess I'm wondering why limit it to non-structural components, if profiles ...

Re: Percentage of Vinyl
So I know Simonton (or more precisely, Simex) uses internal scraps for regrind and Mikron Vinyl (whose website claims they are the largest US extruder) has a buy-back program for it's customers (like Jeld Wen and others) for vinyl scrap which then apparently goes back into their extrusions. http://w...

Re: ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AMERIMAX VINYL WINDOWS?
Hi: Amerimax windows are made here in Colorado - specifically Ft. Collins. I looked at them and really liked their aesthetics. One advantage for folks in CO is that they will argon fill them at our elevation - so no internal pressure buildup from a window built at lower elevation and then shipped he...

Re: Milgard fiberglass vs. Marvin fiberglass?
I looked at both and the Marvin is much, much better - at least aesthetically. Are you looking at the all-Ultrex or Infinity? Unfortunately, at least for the all-ultrex, my Marvin dealer told me they don't make them in special shapes such as half rounds or trapezoids.

Re: Window A/C Air Conditioner install for fiberglass window
How about a portable air conditioner that would simply sit in the room? All you would need is a venting kit for the condensed water.

Re: Unfilled Triple Pane - R9
I'm in Colorado and Simonton will ship windows here from Oklahoma or Illinois filled with argon, up to an elevation of 6500ft. My concern with argon filled windows was not so much gas leakage concerns, but rather in regards to the "pillow effect" sometimes observed when windows are argon f...

Re: Marvin Infinity Help in NJ
Is it true the Marvin Infinity is custom sized based on rough openings and the Marvin Integrity (All-Ultrex and Wood-Ultrex) only comes in standard sizes?

Re: Marvin Infinity Help in NJ
Hi: Last year I got a quote from our only Infinity dealer here in Colorado and the quote for 16 windows (all sliders in the Everwood version) was approaching 20k. It was THE most expensive quote and several thousand more than even Marvin Wood-Ultrex. I think one of the problems (at least in Colorado...

Re: Now What?
Was the original quote for $650 more in writing? If discussed on the phone, maybe that $650 was a guesstimate until they crunched the numbers. I thought the original quote was from a dealer. Is the quote really from a distributor? The reason I ask is that I learned that here in Colorado, there are m...

Re: Percentage of Vinyl
When I looked into this, none of the major vinyl window manufacturers use post consumer recycled vinyl. Oftentimes they will use recycled vinyl but be careful in how you interpret that. That usually means they are recycling within their own plant - so it is really still pure vinyl. This is the reaso...

Re: Soft-Lite Elements or Simonton 9800
Bill! I really wanted to thank you for that tip. I had ABC configure with the sensor pack and lo and behold ALL the U and SHGC values now qualify for the tax rebate. They don't sell a lot of Simonton here so I don't think they knew about this option. You really did save me money Bill! Thank you so m...

Re: Soft-Lite Elements or Simonton 9800
Hi Bill:
I wanted to stick with the Cardinal 270 glass for the whole house. Can I stick with the 270 and specify 1"IG and still have the laminate or is 366 the only way to get the U down?

Re: Soft-Lite Elements or Simonton 9800
Greetings Bill: Would you mind taking a gander at a few of these configurations? The first three are examples with KeepSafe and the last one without KeepSafe. The only thing I can figure is that for some reason the KeepSafe option is killing the U factor and SHGC values. Is it because the extra pane...
