Re: Okna or Slocomb?
I saw quite a bit of manufacturers back in 2009/2010 scramble to put together aggressive glazing packages for their windows to qualify for the 30/30 requirements. Clearly, this is what Slocumb has done with the glazing on this unit with a triple low-e southern climate based package. Totally wrong f...

Re: Okna or Slocomb?
I agree, I think that you have answered your own question at this point :D . Not only is that difference in CR pretty major, but the SHGC @ .21 is too low for your area (assuming that you are in the NE?) as well... You would want a significantly lower u-value (like .20 or better) to compensate for ...

These windows face North and they are under a deck.
Hmm, IMO SHGC isn't a factor in this case and the difference between a .22 and .25U is negligible. It's a toss up. What are the UI rates of the sunrise?

What is the SHCG of the Okna Vs Sunrise. What direction do these windows face?

Re: Replacement Insert Question
Good idea. The install you're describing is not easy. if installed improperly, they will leak air and water!Matty33 wrote:Thanks for the replies, very useful info. Based on that I'll get some quotes from the pros to do the job.

Re: Window recommendations for Kansas City
I have started getting quotes, and would like price sanity checks from the experts. The project is for 13 DH avg 27 x 53; 1 picture 58 x 53, 1 picture 53 x 37; and 3 basement windows (includes removing old steel frame windows set in concrete). The first quote totals $11K for Sunrise with double pan...

Re: Help with replacement DH windows in Charlotte, NC
I like the Sunrise windows looks wise. Are the Himark windows just renamed Okna? They use exactly the same pictures from one page to the other. http://www.himarkwindows.com/products/replacement-windows/800%20Series/?portalProcess_dd_0_1_1_0=showPublicItem&inventory_entry_id=3849 http://www.okna...

If you want the best looker, Marvin Infinity is probably the best option. Just be advised it's not as good of a performer as the SL.

Re: OKNA 800 vs. Harvey Tribute?
Infinity is a very high quality window, but at a cost. Okna will out perform it for less. Of the three, Okna is by far the best of the bunch

Re: replacement windows
Expanders were first generation vinyl window techniques that should never be used today. They just make up for sloppy measuring and look junky and amateur. If there are irregularities in the square of an opening that are very noticeable and cannot be caulked neatly, there are better techniques than...

Re: New Construction windows caulked together?
Personally I just would not accept it. In my opinion, the only way to make those windows work as designed and sized, would be to widen the opening so that real mulls could be added in between. As it stands, the only thing holding the windows together at that interface is a bead of caulk. Yeah, that...

Re: New Construction windows caulked together?
That's a bad job. I would definitely get them back to fix that. WOW may have n idea how to affect a proper repair, I sure don't. Those windows were never designed to be mulled together. I'm not sure how I would fix that.
