Re: Reccomendations for replacement windows in KY

You still have decisions to make for yourself. Wood/Vinyl/Fiberglass - depends a great deal on the style that you are looking for in order to keep your house looking the way you want it to. You'll, generally, get the most value for the money out of vinyl. You don't need to spend vast sums of money t...

Re: Replacing Caradco sashes

Good Morning, Most, if not all, of the wood window companies struggled with design and moisture problems for many years after certain treatment compounds were discovered to be too dangerous to use. Though I understand the bad taste you may have for Caradco/Jeld-wen, I think your best choice would be...

Re: replacement window choices

Hi Retired (Lucky You!), You can look at windows and suppliers until you're blue in the face and still not know what to do. Sounds like you have a good handle on what you want to spend and that is a great place to start. I, like ToddinMn, like the Lowe's Reliabilt by Atrium window, for the money. If...

Re: What to do

The opening size you have is pretty large for a twin casement. The twin double hung option would surely be easier on the wallet. That being said, you may look at a triple instead of a quad that would only have a single stationary unit. Or, you might look into putting triple "french" window...

Re: Accu-weld

I've used Accu-Weld quite a bit, but mostly for steel entry door systems with unusual size requirements. I have used their basement windows and garden windows. One thing I can say for them is that if you have a very out of the ordinary opening, they can come up with things that a lot of other suppli...

Re: New Windows, Door

Betsy, Let me switch gears here. I, generally, agree with the previous post. That being said, there are many people who simply can not afford or can not justify paying 'quality' prices for windows and doors and any supplier in their right mind will not have a problem trying to get a paying customer ...

Re: replacement windows in Northeast

Hi Dani, I'll give you the same advice I give every one of my customers. You need to make some decisions, based upon what is important to you and the look and feel of your home. Assuming this is the home you live in and intend to continue to live in, then what is ultimately important is what is goin...

Re: Botched window installation job?

One thing that may have affected the size of windows that were ordered is how far out of square the openings are. That could account for some size variation. Height issue doesn't sound too far out of the norm, though 2/3" is a bit much. The width is more of a problem which makes me wander into ...

Re: condensation

Condensation is a, relatively, common issue with new window, entry door and storm door installations. With the new product, you have tightened up your home. That is a good thing for energy efficency and your utility bill. But, that will amplify other underlying conditions that affect your home. In y...

Re: HR40 windows

I've heard of neither the window nor the company, but that doesn't mean anything. There are numerous manufacturers and installation companies that could likely sell you a decent product and do a decent job for you. Ideally at a decent price! Do yourself a favor, get another quote or two, if you have...

Re: Contemporary Home - Replacement Windows?

I looked at the picture. I really like the original look, and you are absolutely right, the vinyl replacements are horrible in that setting. I think you may do yourself a dis-service if you don't broaden your horizons a bit. Depending upon where you're located, I would give some consideration to loo...

Not that it will help you much in your quest, but the Reliabilt windows are made by Atrium Windows at multiple manufacturing plants in the US.

I agree with Anthony. The awning style is a bit more expensive than a slider or a hopper, but it is a better performer.

Re: Its Down to Two And I want Your Opinions

I'll chime in on this one, too. I tell people all the time that they should take many things into account when purchasing windows, it simply is not all about numbers and performance in real life. Probably the most critical factor in overall customer satisfaction, after the job is complete, is direct...

Re: Please Help!

I'm not familiar with Vinyl Kraft, either. Chelsea is a vinyl extruder so they must make the vinyl frame and sash materials for Vinyl Kraft. I am familiar with the Louisville market. Your quote sounds reasonable considering the number of windows and that they will be wrapped. My only question is how...
